Description: Pair of bumper jacks or car jacks. The jacks are a ratcheting style. The first jack is made of steal and used as a model for the second one which is made of wood and designed to be a prop for a movie set.; Both jacks have an orange painted finish that has been weathered and distressed. One through time and use, the other intentionally designed to look old.; The jacks have a base plate, lifting runner, ratcheting handle, and standard column with adjustment holes.; The prop bumper jack has fewer moving parts and does not include any of the spring mechanisms.

Object History: Jimmy Chow worked in TV and film as a property master for more than 42 years. A property master is responsible for building and procuring props that actors handle and use. This sometimes means making replica items that are lighter, false or make filming easier on the actor. This differs from set decoration, which uses props to create a backdrop and is less central to the action on set.; Jimmy Chow was responsible for designing, managing, and sourcing props for films such as: BFG, Warcraft: The Beginning, X-Men 2, Fantastic Four, Watchman, Tron: Legacy, Little Women, Seven Years in Tibet, Shanghai Noon, The Shipping News, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, The Changeling, Man of Steel (Superman), Snow Falling on Cedars, Legends of the Fall, And the Sea Will Tell, and Once a Thief.; He entered the film industry in 1973 working for CBC Vancouver and gained valuable experience working on the set of the television series The Beachcombers, which launched his career.

The baby is seated on the floor and there is a slot across its chest and its hands are turned palm upwards to hold the glass shelf (11 cm. X 34.5 cm). The body is open at the bottom and the chest slot. The figure has painted brown hair, brown eyes and is wearing a white diaper. There are chips on the right big toe, at the edge of the chest slot, edge of hair on the right side, back of the head and ends of the fingers. No makers mark inside.

Object History: Made for Helen's Children's Wear in early 1950's by Nettie Trainer, the mother of the store owner, Helen Arnold (nee Trainer). They were handmade. Nettie Trainer was a well known maker of custom figures for commercial displays. Helen's Children's Wear was located at 4142 Hastings Street. Owner Helen Arnold opened the store on East Hastings Street in 1948. She moved to the 4142 Hastings Street location in 1955, and added a landmark neon sign to the building in 1956. The sign featured a girl on a swing, and served as an important landmark in the neighbourhood. The store closed in 2007.

The figure has painted blonde hair, blue eyes and is wearing a white diaper. The finish is cracked in the top of the hair and the glass is cracked around the screw hole. There are no makers marks visible.

Description: This is a Wurlitzer Military Band Organ, Style 146B. Built by the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, ca 1925. The organ is supposed to recreate the sound of a 20-piece military band, with percussion instruments that include bass drum, snare drums, cymbals, and xylophones, as well as pipes to reproduce the sounds of trumpets, trombones, flutes, and violins. This band organ is operated by paper rolls based on Wurlitzer's unique, 46 note roll scale, "Style 150". Our Model 146B has duplex roll frames, allowing continuous playing, one roll rewinds as the other is playing. An electric motor mounted on the top uses a belt to drive a crankshaft that powers both the air bellows that feed the various music pipes as well as the roll mechanism. The band organ was originally intended to be used with a carousel out of doors. A perferated sheet of plexie glass has been placed over the front opening to reduce the volume of the instrument inside the carousel building. Object History: The band organ was purchased and restored by the Friends of the Carousel to replace the original organ that had been sold before the carousel was acquired for the Burnaby Village Museum. The Friends of the Carousel bought this machine from a collector in Spokane, Washington. He had obtained it from a closed down travelling carnival company in Reno, Nevada. They had used it with a carousel in the American mid-west.

Description: Give-away baseball cap from the Bridge Film Studio in Burnaby. The cap is black with red trim, "knp" makers logo. Made in China, 100% polyester.

Object History: Obtained from the Bridge Studio Burnaby circa 2006. The Bridge Studios was built in 1987 on 15 acres of land that was formerly part of the Dominion Bridge bridge-building plant. From 1930 until the mid 1970s, Dominion Bridge constructed steel structures ranging from portions of the Golden Gate and Lions Gate Bridges to holding tanks for pulp mills. Several of the Dominion Bridge buildings were re-used by the studio, including the Cafeteria Building, the Boiler House, and the Compressor Building. In the mid-1970s filming began on a temporary basis in unused portions of the plant. In 1987, after lobby efforts by local film industry unions, guilds, and suppliers, the Government of British Columbia agreed to invest in renovating the site to create a permanent studio facility in order to ensure that BC had a stable base of operations for film production. The Bridge Studios, the first dedicated studio facility in Vancouver, opened for business in 1987 with television series "MacGyver" and the feature film "Stakeout" among the first productions to have used the facility.

Scope and Content: Series consists of records pertaining to the moving, restoration, exhibit and repair of the Bell's Dry Goods store and Whitechurch Hardware store building that was relocated from Sixth Avenue to Heritage Village (Burnaby Village Museum) in 1974. The building was set up as a permanent exhibit on site at Burnaby Village Museum. The majority of the records were created by museum and City of Burnaby staff. Series is arranged into four subseries: 1) Restoration, upgrades and repairs subseries 2) Bell's building photographs subseries 3) Bell's exhibit photographs subseries 4) Bell's research files subseries

History: The Bell's Dry Goods building was built in 1922 by Clifford Tuckey with a small lean to structure on the back housing a kitchen and bedroom. The building was located on the northwest corner of Sixth Street and Thirteenth Avenue in Burnaby. William Bell (1884-1952) and Flora Bell (nee Connell) (1889-1953) immigrated to Burnaby from Scotland between 1917 and 1918. In about 1924, the building was purchased by William and Flora Bell. Flora operated "Bell's Dry Goods" store out of the building and the couple lived at the back of the store. William worked as a driver for a local lumber mill. Bell's Dry Goods was in operation in this one storey building between 1925 and 1937 with the building address, 1314 Sixth Street (later 7695 Sixth Street). In 1927, they moved to a house located on Thirteenth Avenue while they converted the back of the store to include the East Burnaby Post Office. In 1937, the Bells moved the one storey "Bell's Dry Goods" building a little further north and built a two storey building on the corner. Flora continued to operate Bell's Dry Goods on the ground level of the new building until 1941 and the couple lived upstairs. The new two storey building assumed the address of 1314 Sixth Street (later 7695 Sixth Street) and the older one storey building obtained a new address of 1316 Sixth Street (later 7685 Sixth Street). The East Burnaby Post Office continued to operate at 1314 Sixth Street until about 1954. On December 1, 1937, Maurice Whitechurch moved his Whitechurch Hardware store into the one storey building which he rented out from the Bells. In 1943, Maurice Whitechurch purchased the building from the Bells and Whitechurch Hardware store continued to operated at this location until the Spring of 1973. In June 1973, Mr. Fergie Will bought the store and the building was donated to Heritage Village (Burnaby Village Museum). In August 1974, the building was relocated from it's location on Sixth Avenue to Heritage Village. Sometime prior to the move, the extension at the rear of the building was removed. After the building was moved to Heritage Village, some exterior repairs were completed including the installation of exterior siding at the rear of the building and installation of large wood sliding door. The building opened as a carpentry shop exhibit in 1975. In March 1976, an extension at the rear of the building was rebuilt by museum staff. The building underwent several repairs and restorations between 1992 and 1996 and was closed to the public. Due to structural problems, the extension was demolished in 1992. Between 1993 and 1996, the building underwent a series of exterior and interior structural repairs to restore it to Bell's Dry Goods store which included the rebuilding of the extension at the rear of the building and the moving of the building onto a new foundation. The newly restored building opened as Bell's Dry Goods store (exhibit) on August 6, 1996. On November 23, 1992, the building was designated a heritage building under Heritage Designation Bylaw 1992, Bylaw Number 9807.

Object History: This artifact was found during construction of replacement foundations of Estate Cottage building at Fairacres (now Burnaby Art Gallery). It was found in 1998 during the restoration project.

Object History: The major B.C.E.R. Main Terminal building at Carrall Street and West Hastings Street in Vancouver and the New Westminster Station at 8th and Columbia included diners where food was served on dishware stamped with the B.C. Electric Railway name.

Marks/Labels: On front in green "COURTEOUS" "B.C. Electric" "SERVICE". On underside, "VITRIFIED", in a circle "GLOBE POTTERY CO. LTD. SHELTON" with a lion logo in the middle. Under logo is "ENGLAND" "BUSCOMBE & COMPANY" "VANCOUVER, CANADA."

Object History: As a produce buyer for Kelly Douglas, Cecil Lee worked closely with local farmers along Marine Drive and in the Fraser Valley. The Burnaby company was one of the largest food distributors in Canada. In the mid-1970s, Lee was asked to oversee the import of Chinese mandarin oranges into Canada. Until that time, mandarin oranges had come from Japan and were sold in the winter, especially at Christmas. When the Japanese market could no longer keep up with demand, Kelly Douglas looked to China. The company relied on Lee’s cultural knowledge to build this very profitable part of their business. Lee designed the cardboard Chinese mandarin orange box to replace wooden containers. The iconic design required no glue or staples, making it possible for farmers to assemble and pack the boxes as they picked the oranges.

Object History: Heritage Village Museum was officially opened in November 1971 as Burnaby's commemorative project to mark the centennial of British Columbia joining Canadian Confederation in 1871. Heritage Village (Burnaby Village Museum) was governed by the Century Park Museum Association which formed in October 1971. The association continued to govern the village museum until the end of 1989. In 1990, the Corporation of the District of Burnaby assumed the operation and management of Burnaby Village Museum and the Burnaby Village Museum Association was dissolved.
