Shears, for pruning. Made by Seymour Smith & Son of Oakville, Connetticutt, USA. The handles open on a spring but can be locked with a loop and stud to keep them closed. The shears are painted black.
Object History
Donor owned Stewart's Cartage & Fuel Supply (1910-1978) on 3870 East Hastings, Burnaby. He was involved in local politics in Burnaby North, as well as the North Burnaby Board of Trade and the Joint Community Ratepayers Association.

Description
Block plane made by the Stanley Rule and Level Co. It is a Bailey No. 22. The body is wood with a cast iron top which houses the blade and cap. The blade is adjustable by a knob and the angle can be changed by a lever behind the blade. The wood body of the plane has had a 1/4 inch removed from the sole. This has been replaced by a 1/4 inch thick piece of hardwood secured by one screw at the right rear corner. The replacement sole turns freely on the one screw. This is most likely a repair or replacement for a worn sole.

A plane composed of a wooden base and cast iron components including a blade, cap and hinged retainer. It has a round wooden knob at the front. A brass knurled wheel is used to adjust the depth of the blade. A lever adjusts the angle of the blade. The base of the plane is flat. Raised markings found on the cast iron plate just below the wooden knob "BAILEY". On the front of the wooden base is stamped "BAILEY STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO." "No. 22". Stamped on the blade is "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO."

Round based metal box with lid. Top of tin is embossed with product name. Bottom of tin has company name inside a sun-shaped design embossed. Tin comes with a pair of yellow-brown tinted goggles with metal rims and attached by a thin metal wire. Sun goggles are foldable and would be fitted over a pair of spectacles. Bottom of tin is velvet lined.

Safe, Diebold Safe + Lock Co.; with four wooden drawers and a key. The safe has double outer doors with a combination lock. Inside there is an upper cabinet for storing ledgers and registers, this is secured with a key lock. On the bottom is a separate cabinet with a pair of combinaton locks and a reinforced bar to secure valuables. The doors of the safe are decorated with painted landscape scenes on the outside and on the doors to the upper cabinet. The body of the safe is highlighted with gold pin stripping. The name of the maker is stenciled on the inside of the main doors. There are paper inspection labels on the right side of the upper cabinet doors. The last time lock inspection was 7/28/49 (July 28, 1949)

Diebold Safe and Lock Co.. has been in business since 1859 and is still producing safes and security systems today (see reference for business web site)

Their action assists the natural circulation of the blood. Directions - Take a dose of 3 drs. 2 or 3 times daily. Made in the U.S.A. by Kay Sang Herb Company. 843 Clay Street, San Francisco, California, U.S.A. This product is used to treat gonorrhea, and whittish/cloudy urine.
