Round based metal box with lid. Top of tin is embossed with product name. Bottom of tin has company name inside a sun-shaped design embossed. Tin comes with a pair of yellow-brown tinted goggles with metal rims and attached by a thin metal wire. Sun goggles are foldable and would be fitted over a pair of spectacles. Bottom of tin is velvet lined.

A chrome coloured plastic cased tape measure with a yellow lock switch. The blade is steel, yellow in colour with black markings, imperial only. A belt clip is provided. Markings on the case on a yellow circular label: "25'/STANLEY/POWERLOCK/II/33-425/MADE IN USA". Markings on the other side of the case: "U.S PATS. 3,716,201 3689, 004" "U.S.T.M. REG. 1,217,350" Markings on the belt clip: "U.S. PAT. 371620" "U.S.A." Imbedded in the case is an indication of the correction required for an internal measurement: "+3 in/76 mm".
Object History
Hand tools used by John Yanko in his business as a tile setter. Annie D. Basiuk (later Yanko) was born on February 25, 1902 in Sheho, Saskatchewan (formerly Sheho, North West Territories). Daniel "Dan" Yanko was born in Kobilnicha, Ukraine in 1887 and immigrated to Canada in May or June of 1905. Daniel Yanko married Annie D. Basiuk and had thirteen children together. Their son, John Ivan Yanko was born on the family farm, near Kelliher, Saskatchewan, on June 27, 1923. In grade six, John was pulled out of school to help support the family. Eugenia “Jenny” Haresomovych (later Carman) was born August 8, 1904 in Galecia, Austria. She came to Canada in 1928, when her parents sent her to live with the Austrian consular in Halifax. A year later, she was in The Pas with Albert Edward Carman, with whom she would have three children. Their daughter, Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman was born in The Pas, Manitoba March 24, 1929. Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) Carman later re-married Joseph Nagy who was born in Hungary in October 3, 1900. Jenny, Joseph and the children moved to Nelson, British Columbia, where Joseph worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the age of twenty, John Yanko met his future wife Lillian Doris Carman while visiting relatives in Burnaby. Lillian received a rail pass because of her dad’s employment with the CPR and at fourteen had gone to visit her Godmother in Burnaby. John Ivan Yanko and Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman were married October 16, 1948 in Nelson, British Columbia and moved into the basement of John’s sister’s house on Union Street. Lillian began working at the downtown Woodward’s store as a cashier in 1948. In 1950, the young couple bought property at 7385 (later renumbered 7391) Broadway in Burnaby and began constructing a house as they could afford it. Knowing she’d be let go if she was pregnant, when Lillian was expecting her first child, Jenny sewed her several versions of the same outfit; they all used the same material, but each was a little bit larger than the last to accommodate her expanding girth. Rhonda, born in 1953 and Charmaine, born in 1955, grew up in the Broadway home. They attended school at Sperling Elementary, and later at Burnaby North high school. Lillian left her job to be a stay-at-home mom when Rhonda was born, but that changed in 1963 when John and Charmaine were in a car accident that left John temporarily unable to work. Joseph Nagy died April 20, 1962; his wife Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) (Carman) Nagy passed away August 14, 1985. Daniel "Dan" Yanko died in 1976; his wife Annie D. (Basiuk) Yanko died in 1997. Description
Portable audio tape recorder with a time code generator attached underneath the recorder. The tape recorder is a "NAGRA IV - S" model with serical number "0604219", marked as made by "NAGRA KUDELSKI Made in Switzerland 1033 Chessaux Switzerland". Originally intended for use with 5 inch spools, this machine has been adapted to accomodate 7 inch spools. The clear plastic lid is moulded to allow 7 inch spools and wings have been added to the sides to support the larger spools. Toogle switches are recessed and setting switches are flat and notched both to prevent accidental changes while recording. There is no power pack with the machine. There is a battery compartment for 12, "D" size batteries located on the underside of the machine.. The tape machine has a sticker at the centre top reading: "AUDIO CINE SERVICES Inc. [address line struck out] 416-461-5015 FEB 9/99 468 71/2 99068" This may indicate the company and date of the addaptation to the larger spools The attached time code reader is marked "Tape Recorder Module TC 200A" "COHERENT COMMUNICATIONS INC." There are two male, seven pin DIN connectors extending from each side of the time code reader on short 4 to 5 inch blue cables. There are two female RG59 BNC connectors on the back of the module and a female 15 pin digial cable socket. There is a socket for plugging in a time code reader.
Object History
This machine was used by the donor to record sound on TV and movie location shoots in Burnaby and the Lower Mainland. The Nagra IV was preceeded by the Nagra III, which revolutionized the recording of sound for film in the early 1960's. The IV was introduced in 1971 and used until the 1990's.

A white canvas tool bag with leather handles and straps. A riveted steel reinforcement is present around the opening at the top edge. The opening is hindged. One pocket is present inside along one side. The bottom is made up of a piece of hardboard. Markings on the outside is printed in blue ink: "Marshalltown R" "NO.831 TOOL BAG" "U.S.A."

Fisher-Price "Music Box Mobile" Blue plastic body with blue arched metal rod. White plastic cross bar attached at top, with 5 characters hanging down on red, yellow and blue strings. Characters include a pig, cow, scarecrow, horse and sheep. Round yellow top cap with a black chicken mounted at top. Motorized base has a yellow "turn" knob and a yellow "push to release button". Green sticker on front with a rooster on a weathervane and the text "Music Box / Mobile / Plays Brahms' Lullaby / Musical Movement / Japan / 174 / Made in U.S.A. / Patented Canada 1974 / Copyright 73 Fisher-Price Toys / East Aurora, N.Y. / DES. PAT. D237.288" Some wear and loss on the sticker surrounding the knob. Back of body has 4 metal screws and a spiral knob with a red wheel disc attached. Has a sticker with a scarecrow, sheep, rose, pig, horse, grass, barn and sky.
Object History
This mobile was used by a family in the Government Road area. The parents moved to Burnaby from Malaysia in 1979, and had two sons. This model of Fisher-Price's motorized mobiles was produced between 1973 and 1975, and attached to the crib rails.

Full-keyboard upstrike Smith Premier No. 2 typewriter made by Smith Premier Typewriter Company, 1904. It features a double keyboard, with rows of lowercase letters at the bottom and uppercase letters at the top. It includes typewriter, carrying lid, wooden platform, two typewriter ribbon spools, and an unrelated box that holds the spools.
Object History
Donor found object in an old building in Vancouver, ca. late 1950's - early 1960's. Smith Premier manufactured double keyboards until 1921, long after their competitors had introduced the "Shift" key which allowed each key to type both an upper and lowercase letter.

Underwood Expert-Typing Tests - Pamphlet -- [1923]. Underwood typing test for October, 1923 part of the Underwood Expert-Typing program. The pamphlet consists of a short story that the student is given 15 minutes to type out. The pamphlet is four pages. The test is only to be completed on an Underwood Typewriter.
