- Medal, silver-coloured; Queen Victoria Jubilee 1897; front -design of Queen Victoria showing head, shoulders and two laurel sprigs; centre - coat-of-arms, surrounded by 5 circles, each with symbol at centre; hangs from decorative brass bar with blue grosgrain ribbon connecting it to similar bar at top; partial fastener on back; ribbon is hand-sewn on to the brass bars.

- Part of a donation pertaining to Frederick Homer Cassels, a WWI Veterinary service army veteran.
- Frederick Homer Cassels was born June 25th 1870 or 1872 in Paisley, Ontario. He moved to BC in 1914 and settled in Vancouver. Cassels was a veterinary surgeon in the 103rd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I.
- Prior to that, Cassels worked in Washington State. He married Emily Frances McMullen in England in 1919. They came back to Canada and settled in Burnaby the same year.
- He later worked as a marble worker, sticker and polisher at Continental Marble Works until 1932. The family settled in Burnaby's "Skunk Hollow" area, an area off Boundary Road at 13th Avenue and Clydesdale. Their children attended Schou St. School.
- He passed away July 31 1948.

- Object History
- The plaque was presented to Burnaby Village Museum in April 1987 to commemorate the opening of Seaforth School as a museum exhibit. Seaforth School was originally built in the Lozells neighbourhood in North Burnaby in 1922, on Government Road at Piper Avenue. In 1983, the school was moved to its current site on the grounds of the Burnaby Village Museum and it remains a protected heritage building in Burnaby.

- From the late 1800s to the present day, Chinese Canadians have made Burnaby into a more vibrant and livable city. Rooted: Chinese Canadian Stories in Burnaby brings together a collection of diverse stories and photographs from the community, celebrating the legacy and contributions of Burnaby’s Chinese Canadian community spanning over a century. This coffee-table book features oral histories and interviews with descendants of multigenerational family farms, green grocers, corner stores, restaurants, and places of worship. Also included are archival research and community perspectives on anti-Asian racism, community activism, courage, and resilience.
- The publication has been timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the introduction of the Chinese Exclusion Act by the Government of Canada in 1923. This federal legislation followed decades of discriminatory legislation by Canada’s federal, provincial and municipal governments that targeted Chinese Canadians by limiting opportunities to live, work and raise families in Canada. The Chinese Exclusion Act banned almost all migration from China and remained in place until 1947. Publishing this book in 2023 is an effort by the City of Burnaby to recognize the impact of discriminatory legislation on Chinese Canadians in our community, including discriminatory bylaws and practices implemented by Burnaby’s early municipal government.

- White ceramic tile with gold design. The design is made up of a gold flower hanging down the centre with six circles coming from the opening of the bell shape. There are two tendrils of ribbon framing either side of the flower in an "S" shape. One end of the ribbon is cut like the end of a snake's tongue. There is a clean diagonal break, nearly a quarter of the whole tile.

- These tiles are from Glenedward Mansion, built in 1912. It was built at 3412 Kingsway, which later became 5152 Kingsway. They were salvaged when the mansion was demolished in the 1990s.

- White ceramic tile with gold design. The design is made up of two flowers attached to a gold curled tendril. At the top, a large flower follows the curled line. the line conitnues out of the centre of the flower and splits into two leafy tendrils. One of the leaves has a thick gold curl coming from it. A ribbon with a flower is tied to this gold curl (nearest to the bottom of the tile), and has six stamens coming from the flower. There is a large brown circular stain and lots of gray stains, the colour of dry wall putty. The tile has a clean diagonal split across the centre right near to where the ribbon attaches to the gold curl. The bottom corner is missing with another clean diagonal split, and small triangular piece missing along the largest split.

- Wedding dress, c.1909-1910. White cotton crepe with hand embroidery. Short bodice with pin tucks, slight pouf, and three quarter sleeves. Pleated ankle length column skirt. The bodice has a small lace edged V neck, and three pin tucks on each shoulder. Two of the pin tucks angle inwards and continue to the waistline. Between the tucks the bodice is covered with hand worked floral and ribbon themed embroidery. It is gathered at the waistband, creating a slight puff reminiscent of the recently out of fashion pouter pigeon bodice. The back of the bodice has three vertical pin tucks that extend from the shoulder to the waistband on either side of the centre back button closure, with thread covered buttons. There is a slight gather between the pin tucks and side back seams, from the panel under each arm. The sleeves are three quarters in length. They have turned up cuffs topped with embroidery and edged with the same lace as seen on the collar. The skirt has a sailor front opening with six thread covered buttons on either side of a centre front panel. Just past hip level, there are two accordion pleats on either side of the panel. There is a gore on each side and one on the back that flare out slightly; each has the floral and ribbon embroidery. On the back gore, there is a pleat on either side at calf level. The hem is ankle length.

- From donor: "This was the wedding dress of my sister-in-law's mother, worn about 1905. They came from Maine. Made of cotton, hand embroidery, a typical "country-type" wedding gown of the period. It was given to me by my sister-in-law and I am only too glad to have it find such a welcoming spot in B.C.!"

- May Your Troubles be Ink Bubbles - Ink Blotter. Circular blotter pad with three pages. The blotter is held together with a yellow ribbon through each page. The front page has an illustration of a house window with green shutters and pink curtains, and two blue birds on a tree branch. There is a poem on the front cover "May your troubles be ink bubbles, / That this blotter whisks away / And may bluebirds of happiness / Sing in your heart / each day."

- Bodice, c.1902-1903. Black net with silver thread, black velvet, and and black embroidery, white silk under layer. Three quarter length sleeves, high collar, pouter pigeon. The high standing collar has four stays to keep it upright. It has an under-layer of white silk, and an over-layer of embroidered net like the rest of the bodice. At the neckline and shoulders, the net is gathered and pleated, as well as at the waistband, so if will puff out. At the centre front of the bodice there is a floral motif in black thread, and that is surrounded by tendrils of silver metal thread embroidery, with loops filled in with black velvet. At the back of the bodice, there is silver and velvet embroidery at the top near the shoulders. Beneath, there is floral embroidery in black thread. The embroidered net on the sleeves is gathered at the top and sides of the armscye, and at the cuff. There are two ball buttons at the cuff covered in metallic tulle, and the cuff itself has two layers of gathered net ruffle; the outside layer is black and the inside is white. The bottom of the bodice has a round shape in the back, and curves downwards to the centre front. It has a heavy waistband made of eleven silver metal cords attached as a flat ribbon. There are two buttons on either side of the centre back closure, the same type as on the cuffs. Inside, the bodice is lined in white cotton. It has nine bones and a centre back closure of hooks and eyes, with a separate set for the lining and the outer fabric.
- Object History
- The donor donated the bodice and other items after the death of her mother in West Vancouver. The items had been stored in the donor's basement since she was young. The bodice belonged to her grandmother, who lived in Edmonton until about 1905, and was used by the donor to play dress-up.
