Scope and Content: File consists of a ninety-three page scrapbook containing photographs, original artwork, newspaper clippings and memorabilia for the 51st Burnaby Brownie Pack, C.W.L.; 1967 - 1975. The title page "51st Burnaby Pack / C.W.L. / 1967 - 1975" of the scrapbook includes a pen and coloured pencil illustration with an owl on a toadstool surrounded by sprites, elves and fairies. Special events are documented with photographs, newspaper clippings, newsletters, collages, illustrations and a variety of ephemera pertaining to: Enrolment Ceremonies; various donations of handicrafts; service projects; Dedication Ceremonies of the International Peace Arch; camping; Brownie and Guide Revels at James Cowan Centre, Burnaby and Queen's Park, New Westminster; Jubilee Poetry Contest for Eastburn District; Ceremony for Mrs. Clysdale; Baden Powell Day; and winning Cookie sale posters. The 51st Brownie Pack was opened on September 23, 1967 with one Brownie and 18 tweenies. Mrs. Jeanne Schneider was acting Tawny Owl and Mrs. Terry Parkin acting Brown Owl. The 51st Brownie Pack was part of the Eastburn District, Imperial Division and regular meetings were held at Our Lady of Mercy School auditorium.

Scope and Content: Item consists of a large poster titled "Burna-bee Royal Chalet / our cabin on Hollyburn Mt." The poster includes a history about the Burnaby Royal Girl Guide Chalet on Hollyburn Mountain in West Vancouver as well as colour photographs of the cabin in the winter and summertime.The cabin was originally built in 1934 by Gus Johnson with the assistance of Tom Gibson and was then known as the Hollyburn Pacific Pacific Ski Club. It was originally constructed on the highest point of land halfway between Hollyburn Lodge and West Lake and was often used as a ski jump in the winter. The cabin was moved in 1940 to make way for the water supply from West Lake and taken apart and reerected at it's present site on Cypress Mountain. It took nine days diassemble and move the cabin log by log. It continued to be used as the Cypress Ski Club and a few years later, it was renamed the Vancouver Ski Club. It continued to be used as a ski club until 1963 when the Burnaby Girl Guides leased the building with an option to purchase which they excercised in 1965. Many guiders rode the chairlift to access the cabin for winter camping and skiing until the chairlift burned in June 1965. After the fire, access to the cabin was restricted since it took over two and a half hours to hike in depending on weather conditions.

Scope and Content: Subseries consist of minutes, correspondence, reports, membership lists, press releases, presentations, fundraising material, posters, scripts, budgets and financial statements created and compiled by the Burnaby Arts Council between 1966 and 1989.

History: The Burnaby Arts Council was formed in the early 1960s and was comprised of representatives from six existing arts organizations: the Burnaby Writer's Society, the Burnaby Historical Society, the Burnaby Art Gallery, the Burnaby Players, the Burnaby Civic Opera and a dance group. The Council was initially called the Fine Arts Council and its first mandate was to see the Art Gallery move from its location in the basement of the Burnaby Kingsway Library into premises of its own. Sheila Kincaid was a driving force behind this venture and when the Gallery was successfully relocated, she became the first director of the Burnaby Art Gallery in its present location in Ceperley House. During the 1967 Centennial Year, one of the Municipal projects for the Centennial was the dedication of the land at Deer Lake Park for an Arts Centre. At this time, the Fine Arts Council changed its name to the Burnaby Arts Council and the group focused its energies on securing funding for needed renovations and staffing for the Gallery and Arts Centre. That year, all the groups in the Council donated their share of the Provincial Cultural Grants toward outfitting the James Cowan Theatre. 1967 also saw a big Festival of the Arts produced to raise the public's awareness of the Arts Centre. During the late 1960s, the Council worked to get registered Society status and by 1976, it was fully incorporated. Throughout the years, the Burnaby Arts Council has supported and sponsored the arts and arts programs in Burnaby. Events such as the Burnaby Craft Market, the Burnaby Summer Theatre, the Christmas Craft Fair, and various concert series, studio tours, exhibitions and displays have been presented by the Council and it continues to be an active and driving force behind the celebration of arts and culture in Burnaby.
