- In February 2001, Council formally approved the City's Corporate Records Management Program. The Program manages the creation, maintenance, and disposition of the records of the City of Burnaby. An integral part of that program is the Records Classification System and Retention Schedule (RCSRS), which provides standardized classification codes among all municipal departments and identifies the retention periods for all classes of records created or received by the City. The City Archives, opened November 10, 2001, is the official repository for all inactive civic records of permanent administrative, legal, fiscal, historical, evidential, or informational value to the City of Burnaby. The Archives is guided by its Mandate and Acquisition Policy which was first adopted by Council on August 13, 2001, and revised on September 18, 2006 to include the acquisition and preservation of private (non-governmental) records that compliment the official city records and enhance understanding of the history and development of Burnaby. - Original footage shot on 16mm film in the early 1950's by Ken Hodgsen.
- Summary : Historical film footage of Lower Mainland trams on their various routes as well as an excursion train. Film footage is part of the B.C. Transit Centennial and includes a voice over commentary by Frank Horn and Vic Sharman. Frank worked as a motorman on the BC Electric Railway. The trams are shown travelling through Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, North Delta, Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack. The excursion train was filmed in Washington State, U.S.A. The narrators give commentary, describing the routes, landmarks of the past and present, the various kinds of trams and buses seen, drivers’ protocols, and historical information.

- In 1937 New Haven Correctional Centre was established as the British Columbia Training School on the southeast side of Marine Drive in Burnaby (4250 Marine Drive). Sections of Sussex and Patterson Avenues bordered the estate. Originally, the facility housed nineteen inmates with two staff and was one of the first initiatives in Canada to segregate young adult inmates into a separate institution apart from adults. This was part of the Borstal system that started in England whereby young male offenders between the ages of sixteen and twenty one were trained to earn an honest living. Alterations and additions to the estate took place between December 1937 and October 1939 so that more inmates could be accomodated. Five new cottages were built that could hold up to forty people. Except for the plastering and lighting, all work on the new cottages was done by the inmates. On October 29, 1939, the Lieutenant-Governor Eric Hamber formally opened the New Haven Borstal School. World War II interrupted full development of the intstitution and it was closed in 1941 when the inmates were were conscripted into the army. Between 1941 and 1947 the Deaf and Blind Institute were housed at New Haven. In 1947, the New Haven Borstal School returned to the estate. New additions were added to old buildings and new additional buildings were erected on the site over the years including a warden's house on the east grounds and a barn and gymnasium. In the 1970s an equipment shed was added along with another dormitory and a variety of small sheds and storage buildings. The correctional centre officially closed in March 2001.

- The Burnaby Outdoor Club was formed in 1991 for the purpose of promoting the care and enjoyment of the outdoor environment through hiking, cycling, and skiing, supplemented by a variety of other sports and activities. - Series consists of all bylaws passed, signed and sealed by the municipal Council of Burnaby, as well as drafts of bylaws that did not receive final adoption or a final reading. Bylaws pertain to all aspects of municipal government, including, but not limited to, public works, land and building regulation, taxation, finance, licensing, public health and safety, and recreation and culture. Series also includes files of correspondence and other documents related to the development of individual bylaws and municipal bylaw elections, as well as appendices to bylaws, including maps, plans, and engineering related comprehensive development drawings (CD plans). Included also are bylaw record books, which list all bylaws and related information, such as dates of reading and final adoption dates. Bylaws are numbered sequentially and are arranged according to bylaw number.
