Object History
Ration Book was created by the Government of Canada in the 1940s during World War II. The ration book was used by donor during the Second World War. Even though the ration book states that the donor was living in New Westminster, the address was actually located in Burnaby.

Canadian Patriotic Fund - Receipt -- [1916]. Receipt for Thos S McNair from the Canadian Patriotic Fund, Vancouver Branch. Mr. McNair had contributed $5.00 to the organization on January 27, 1916.
Object History
The Canadian Patriotic Fund was an organization that operated during the First World War that fund-raised to provide grants to wives and dependents of soldiers. The organization provided pensions to widows and fallen soldier dependents until pensions were assumed by the Federal Government in 1916. Receipt belonging to Thomas Seaborn McNair, who was born on May 15 1888 to Francis McNair and Elizabeth Taylor. He worked as an accountant and estate agent. He married Mary Vida McMillan in 1917. Thomas ran Edwards, McNair and Russell in Vancouver (presumably an accounting firm). Thomas McNair died in 1982.

Inspection Card - Immigration form -- [1909]. Inspection card for T. McNair when he immigrated to Canada from England in 1909. He sailed on the S.S. Corsican from Liverpool England. The inspection card was started on January 8, 1909. There are two stamps on the form, one for passing the Medical Inspection. The other stamp is from the Dominion Immigration Agency in St. John, New Brunswick stating that McNair passed inspection on January 17th, 1909. The back of the card advises that the card be kept for three years in case it is wanted by the Government. The phrase was translated in to eleven other languages.
Object History

Object History
Florena (or Floriana) Bird was born in Toronto in 1882 to Joseph Bird and Alice Pill. She married Orval Elsworth Butler, a cabinet maker and carpenter in 1928. She worked as a clerk until her marriage at age 44. The couple moved to Burnaby in the 1930s. Orval died at age 79 in 1941. Florena died in 1973 at age 90. The Orval Butler and his first wife, Catherine, likely built the house at 8006 Government Rd. Catherine (spelling unknown) died and left Orval a widower before his marriage to Florena. Florena later lived in the house. The contents of the house were donated to the Burnaby Village Museum upon her death as part of her estate.

Civil Defence Canada - Certificate -- [1945]. Certificate awarded to Herbert Russell Parsons as a volunteer worker for Civil Defence in the war. In the middle of the certificate is a gold seal from the Department of Veteran Affairs. The certificate is dated September 5, 1945.
Object History
The Government of Canada issued these certificates to the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) volunteers who served during the Second World War. Mr. Herbert Parsons served as a ARP Warden in the Jubilee area of South Burnaby.

Third Year Course Household Science Examination - Certificate and Envelope -- [1925]. Third Year Course Household Science Examination Certificate for Nina Christina Atkinson, No. 1396. The examination was held in June 1925. Nina was tested in Composition, Literature, History, Algebra and Arithmetic, Chemistry, Physiology and Hygiene, Dietetics, French Translation, French Grammar, Cookery, Dressmaking and Millinery, and finally Drawing and Design. In red at the top of the certificate is the Coat of Arms for British Columbia and written below is "The Government of the Province of British Columbia. On the reverse side is information on supplement examinations. The certificate measures 18cm x 22cm. The envelope is brown paper addressed to Nina C. Atkinson, at 215-13th Ave., New Westminster, B.C.. The envelope has an orange King George V stamp on the top right corner and "Department of Education/ Victoria, B.C." written on the top left corner. The envelope has a butterfly enclosure and measures 19cm x 27cm.
