- Item consists of unedited film footage titled “1912 Parker Carousel / Restoration / 1991 to 1994" by Alex Matches. Film footage documents various stages of restoration of the carousel including, the carousel horses, the "doghouse" and Wurlitzer. There is some narration by the camera person but sound quality is poor and segments contain ambient noise. The footage is divided into segments marked by dates, visible in the bottom right corner. Dates range between April 1991 and March 1993. Some of this unedited footage could have been used for the Burnaby Village Museum film "Labour of Love - The Saving of Number 119" (see BV020.4.28). 00:00 - 03:23: Apr. 20, 1991 : Volunteers and staff working on the restoration of carousel horses in the Texaco warehouse. They are busy scraping away old paint. Various horses are suspended on frames while some are laid on their sides on work benches. 03:24 - 06:15: Nov. 2 1991 : Volunteers and staff working on scraping and sanding away old layers of paint on carousel horses in the Texaco warehouse. Some horses are getting repairs. A little narrative coming from camera operator but mostly ambient sound. Pieces of the "doghouse" are also visible. 06:16 - 08:20 : Dec. 28 1991 : Horses are in various stages of restoration and repair inside the Texaco warehouse. 08:21 - 09:40 : Dec. 28, 1991 : Volunteers are gathered in a lunch room taking a break. Views of carousel horses in another room of the warehouse which have been applied with a sealer. The Worlitzer is also visible during a stage of restoration. Volunteers are gathering inside and seating themselves on horses around the carousel for the Volunteers Grand Opening. The carousel begins to move with some volunteers riding various horses while the Wurlitzer plays in the background. 1:04:10 - 1:09:44 : March 27 1993 - Carousel is officially opened. Includes interviews by curator Colin Stevens with Friends of Carousel president, Don Wrigley and Dave Zieffert, Restorator of the Wurlitzer and Gordie Ironside who helped work with the restoration. - The recipe book was owned by Julia Olea Kolot (nee Melland) born June 6, 1906. She was born in North Dakota and moved to Saskatchewan when she was about 20, met and married Harold Kolot and had three children, before moving to Vancouver for her health in 1944. Her parents came from Norway long before she was born, and she was one of 13 children. They ran a café in Vancouver (possibly the Copenhagan) and worked the kitchen of a small restaurant at Clear Water Lake in Saskatchewan in the summers for a number of years. She was also the cook at the North Shore Winter Club for a number of years. Her grand-daughter recalls that later in life she didn't use many recipes; she mostly cooked from memory. Her books contain many notes and other recipes that she (or someone else) added.

- History
- Edmonds School traces its history back to the opening of the first school in Burnaby in 1894. The "Burnaby school" was a typical one-room school house constructed on a small site on the opposite side of Canada Way (then named Douglas Road) and 18th Avenue. In 1896, when West Burnaby School, was built the school was renamed the "East Burnaby School." By 1908, the original small school house and its little playground became too small to contain the growing number of school-aged children living in the area. That year the Municipality of Burnaby and the Burnaby School Board funded a new four room school to house 75 students on the present site facing Edmonds Street. This building was known for many years as the old "gray school" because of its drab paint colour. In 1913, a four-room addition completed this school which was then renamed the "Edmonds Street School." In 1922, the school was was expanded with a new four-room "bungalow" building on the Douglas Road side of the property. By 1925, four more rooms were added to house the student population of this rapidly growing district, which peaked at 580 by 1930. After World War II, the old school was designated as a junior high school and in 1949, the present building was opened on an expanded site. By 1953 and 1955 the school received more additions to accommodate a student enrolment that had expanded to thirteen hundred students. The original gray building was demolished in 1956 and the bungalow building, which had served for many years as the elementary school, was destroyed by fire in 1989. The school was later rebuilt as Edmonds Community School.

- Scope and Content
- Fonds consists of three scrapbooks providing a detailed account of the fundraising, restoration and installation of the Parker Carousel no. 119 which was rescued from the PNE and re-installed at the Burnaby Village Museum. Scrapbooks were created by Keith and Pat Jamieson and contain photographs, newspaper clippings, publicity and correspondence documenting this historical event and are described at item level.
- History
- Keith Jamieson was one of the founding members of the Lower Mainland Association of the Friends of the Vancouver Carousel. The Association was created in 1989 to raise funds to rescue the C.W. Parker Carousel no. 119 from Playland at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). As a collector and restorer of vintage carousel horses, Keith and his wife Pat took a keen interest in saving this carousel. In May 1989, Burnaby Village Museum agreed to provide a home for the carousel and Friends of the Carousel set about raising the $350,000 to purchase the machine which opened at the Museum in 1993. Jamieson a carousel expert, worked on restoring the Expo ’86 carousel and agreed to oversee the restoration of the Parker Carousel when it was moved to Burnaby.
