- Journal; hand bound journal tied together with three ribbons along the left edge. Green coloured cardstock cover of journal includes hand drawn art nouveau style border illustration and title in black and gold; title in centre reads: "Observations / from / NATURE". Original water-soluable ink drawings of flora and fauna throughout. Nine black and white photographs of Deer Lake and "Class VI Boys" and "Farmerettes of Class VI" working in school garden are glued onto the last seven pages. Preface on page 3 of journal indicates that the content includes personal observations of the woods around Deer Lake made by the author, S. Herbert Price and is dated May 8, 1923. Content on pages within journal document the creator's observations with texts and illustrations between January 1923 and May 1923.
- Object History
- Sydney Herbert Price was born on December 18 1903 in England to Frank Price (1872-1952) and Ruth Parlour (1875-1941). He was a school teacher for the Burnaby School Board and lived at 6050 Clinton Street, Burnaby. He died in 1969. The family lived at 3113 Royal Oak in Burnaby (later renumbered to 6290). In 1906, his uncle (Herbert Price) purchased the land on which Oakalla Prison Farm was to be built on. The Price family farm grew strawberries and then raspberry canes. The business grew so big that the family hired up to 100 berry pickers to help out.

- Two original pressed poppy flowers in frame; Handwritten inscription in black ink reads: "Poppies from Battlefield of Givenchy. Gathered in 1916. Presented by Mr. Randle Taylor, 102 C.E.F." Two poppies are mounted on beige coloured paper beneath a piece of glass, within a wooden frame, painted black.
- Object History
- The poppies were gathered on the battlefield of Givenchy in 1916 and presented by Mr. Randle Taylor, 102nd Battalion C.E.F. Randle Taylor (1881-1963) was a Canadian citizen and resident of Vancouver. Randle Taylor volunteered for service on February 15, 1916. The Battle of Givenchy took place between December 18 and December 22 in 1914. The 102nd Battalion CEF was authorized on December 22, 1915, originating from Northern British Columbia. The Battalion embarked for Britain on June 18, 1916 and disembarked in France on August 12, 1916 where it fought as part of the 11th infantry Brigade, 4th Canadian Division in France and Flanders until the end of the war. Red field or corn poppies grew wild in clusters on and around the battle zones in the regions around Belgium and France. In May 1915, these vibrant red flowers caught the attention of a Canadian soldier by the name of Major John McCrae and inspired his poem "In Flanders Fields". During and after the war the poppy and its connection with the memory of those who died in that war was expanded to help the military and civilian survivors of that war.

- Certificate of Marriage - Certificate -- [1908]. Marriage Certificate for Jón Jónsson of Vancouver BC and Lilja Einarsson of Winnipeg, MB. They were married April 29th 1908 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The certificate has images all round the border in gold and passages from the Bible in red text. The certificate was published by Ernst Kaufmann, Lahr, Baden in New York.

- Lilja and Jon moved to British Columbia in 1910. They eventually moved to Burnaby and lived on 464 Northcliffe Crescent in Burnaby with their son Harold. Jon worked at the Vancouver Shipyards as a foreman.

- Object History
- Cake boxes were made to share pieces of a 25,000 pound, 24-foot high offical Centennial cake cake that was displayed at Lougheed Mall. It was baked by George Molecey of Nanaimo, using his Princess Margaret 1958 cake recipe. Newspapers reported it to be the largest fruit cake ever made, and it ws decorated with a tonne of bright coloured icing. The cost of the cake was $50,000 with 15 professional baking assistants working on it for six weeks. The cake celebrated the province's 100th birthday, and the first cut was made by Chief Dan George and Burnaby Mayor, R. W. Prittle.

In the centre there are two oval headshot photos of "Governor A. E. Kennedy, Vancouver Island" and "Governor F. Seymour, British Columbia" above a drawing of "J.A.R. Homer, High Sheriff reading Proclaimation uniting the two colonies at New Westminster, November 19, 1866." At the bottom "Issued by/ THE CANADIAN CONFEDERATION CENTENNIAL COMITTEE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA" Interior has a story of BC's history and four landscape photos of Victoria and New Westminster in 1866, and Victoria Government Offices in 1868 and Royal Engineers' camp. Back has copy of signed declaration with two seals and signatures.

- Program for the Official Opening and Dedication of the 1912 Burnaby Centennial Parker Carousel and the Don Wrigley Pavilion, at Burnaby Village Museum, March 25, 1993. The program is printed on heavy card stock of an off-white colour. The text and images are printed in a dark blue ink. The stock is an 11 by 17 inch sheet folded in half giving four pages 8.5 by 11 inches. The front cover features an artists image of a carousel and Burnaby logos. The first inside page features "The Story of the Carousel" , History of C.W. Parker Carousel No. 119" and "The Don Wrigley Pavilion". Page two features "Dedication Ceremony" program. There is a small, golden coloured metal plaque nailed into the side of the gavel pad with 2 nails. - Gavel pad used by Mayor William Copland (1987-1996). William “Bill” Copeland once joked that the reason he ran for mayor of Burnaby was because “there wasn’t a shadow of hope he would be successful” – and when the votes were tallied and he was declared victorious, Bill asked for a recount. Fortunately for the people of Burnaby, he was not serious and instead went on to become an overwhelmingly popular and much-respected leader of the community. Bill’s service to his community began early in life. Born in Vancouver on May 19, 1927, Bill was still a young man when World War Two began but that did not stop him from serving in the Merchant Marines and in the Royal Canadian Navy. After the war, Bill and his wife Ruth raised three children and in 1955 he embarked on a career with the Burnaby Fire Department. Bill went on to serve Burnaby as a firefighter until his retirement in 1987 as an Assistant Fire Chief. During this lengthy tenure, Bill held a leadership role in the Firefighters’ Union Local 323 and served as Vice President of the 6th District of the International Association of Firefighters. Over the years, Bill found various ways to contribute to the people of Burnaby. In conjunction with his work with the Fire Department, Bill was also President of the Burnaby Red Cross, Director of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Chairman of the St. John Ambulance, Life Member of the Burnaby North Lions Club and Member of the Deer Lake Chapter of the Rotary Club – to name but a very few of the numerous groups and organizations to which he belonged. Immediately upon his retirement from the Fire Department in 1987, Bill was asked to run for the position of Mayor of Burnaby and was successful in his bid. As Mayor, Bill earned the respect of Council and the citizens of Burnaby for his outstanding work and dedication to the community. Bill was an advocate of public participation and introduced the concept of “Area Advisory Committees” to the City with the appointment of the Hastings Street Advisory Committee. The success of this process has led to many other appointments for area advisory committees throughout Burnaby. Bill did not limit his good works to stay within the borders of the City, and as Mayor he was responsible for the two-year sister city twinning agreement with the city of El Zapotal, El Salvador. This campaign saw the citizens of Burnaby embark on numerous initiatives and fundraisers to offer support and assistance to this developing area. In 1996, Bill retired from public life after serving three terms in office and in 1997, in recognition of Bill’s contribution to the community both as a firefighter and as Mayor, the newly constructed ice arena at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex was officially named the “Bill Copeland Sports Centre,” and in 2001, Bill was made a Freeman of the City. William Copeland died August 30, 2002.
