Object History
The donors immigrated to Burnaby from England and Sweden in the 1920s. One donor's parents bought three acres of land on Douglas Road, near the west end of Burnaby Lake. In 1927, they moved to a stump ranch on Springer and Union on the south side of Capitol Hill.

A brown wooden frame around a Royal Canadian Air Force certification. The backing of the frame is covered over in paper, and there is a wire hanging wire. The certificate reads: This is to certify that Wing Commander CAN C522 MARTIN Elmer Wilson served on active service with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 6 September 1939 and was honourably released and transferred to the RCAF (Reserve) General Section, Class "E" on the 28th day of November 1945.
Object History
Elmer Wilson Martin was a professional engineer who lived much of his life in Burnaby. He married Ellen Renetta "Reta" (Boyd) Martin in approx. 1930 and the couple moved to Burnaby in 1931 for him to attend UBC. He later enlisted in the RCAF during WWII where he served as a pilot and wing commander. Elmer ran Martin's Auto Villa at 6604 East Hastings Street (later 6574 East Hastings Street) and was heavily involved in local Burnaby politics and with the North Burnaby Board of Trade. The donor states that he ran for Burnaby mayor in 1959 and also donated land to S.F.U. in the late 1960's. He had many businesses throughout his life including Paneloc Buildings, a pre-fab building manufacturing company. His last position was as Director with the construction company Webb & Knapp Canada Ltd.

Flags; two small, nylon flags, stapled to black plastic sticks with pointed finials; one is the flag of the Royal Canadian Air Force (R.C.A.F.) in the design adopted in 1940; the other flag is the Canadian Red Ensign in the design used between 1957 and 1965; the two black plastic sticks are secured together with a single small nail.

uniform hat, Sea Rangers; sailor hat; stiff, brimless white coated textile hat. Black ribbon tally around base with text reading: “SEA RANGERS” with GG trefoil logo. Black twill chin strap. Green and red textile strips sewn into cap interior, possibly to indicate starboard and port sides. Blue textile sweatband and blue plastic lining. "MADE IN ENGLAND". Masking tape label inside hat lining with text in blue ink reading: "KATHY HARDY / C-6-157-001-8". Liquid staining on top of hat.

Ranger uniform (1960's) belonging to Kathy Hardy Raadsheer. She was an active Brownie, Girl Guide and Sea Ranger. Worn with white blouse, red maple leaf tie/scarf, macrame lanyard, hat (sea ranger-white or land ranger-navy), navy skirt or pants.

Journal; hand bound journal tied together with three ribbons along the left edge. Green coloured cardstock cover of journal includes hand drawn art nouveau style border illustration and title in black and gold; title in centre reads: "Observations / from / NATURE". Original water-soluable ink drawings of flora and fauna throughout. Nine black and white photographs of Deer Lake and "Class VI Boys" and "Farmerettes of Class VI" working in school garden are glued onto the last seven pages. Preface on page 3 of journal indicates that the content includes personal observations of the woods around Deer Lake made by the author, S. Herbert Price and is dated May 8, 1923. Content on pages within journal document the creator's observations with texts and illustrations between January 1923 and May 1923.
Object History
Sydney Herbert Price was born on December 18 1903 in England to Frank Price (1872-1952) and Ruth Parlour (1875-1941). He was a school teacher for the Burnaby School Board and lived at 6050 Clinton Street, Burnaby. He died in 1969. The family lived at 3113 Royal Oak in Burnaby (later renumbered to 6290). In 1906, his uncle (Herbert Price) purchased the land on which Oakalla Prison Farm was to be built on. The Price family farm grew strawberries and then raspberry canes. The business grew so big that the family hired up to 100 berry pickers to help out.

Object History
Found by members of the White family in a stump locted on their property on Portland Street in Burnaby in 1939. There were logging camps in the area and early settlers clearing land. This item would have been made by someone with access to a forge.

Description
tax assesment notice; cream paper, black, green and red print; "STATEMENT OF TAXES" "Corporation of the District of Burnaby, Edmonds, B.C."; mailed "May 22, 1924" to "Thomson Bros."; shows taxes owing on DL 97, Block 33, Lot 7 in their Highlands properties; pre-printed form mailed to property owners, shows current taxes owed, taxes in arrears and delinquent taxes; 13.25" long x 5.5" high; tear-off portion one end to accompany payment; "R. BOLTON, Collector"; red "THIS NOTICE MUST ACCOMPANY PAYMENT"; on reverse, round chart "HOW YOUR DOLLAR IS SPENT."; two holes punched at top of tear-off; this statement is for improved land, assessed at $290, net taxes $11.31, tax from 1923 owing $12.67, interest .50, from 1922, $11.32, interest $1.36, totalling $37.16
Object History
The Highland Park sub-division in District Lot 97, was in part a real estate development by the company owned by the Thomson family. James and Melville P. Thomson, owned and operated "Thomson Bros." They had extensive property interests in Vancouver and Burnaby and owned and operated a book selling and stationery business in Vancouver.

Stiff fabric scroll, rolled up and attached to a metal roll that would be placed into a holder. Black back ground and white capital letters for destinations: "VANCOUVER / WESTMINSTER / CENTRAL PK / HIGHLAND PK / BURNABY LK / DOUGLAS RD / STEVESTON / MARPOLE / LIMITED / SPECIAL / RACE TRACK / HORNE PAYNE / CARRALL ST / PARK AVE / CAR BARNS".
Object History
This was a destination roller for British Columbia Electric Railway tram, Burnaby Lake line. It was used by drivers to change the name of their destination.
