The grave marks the death of John Holmes who died May 10,1824, and his son Gabriel who died June 20th 1824. John Holmes was the grandfather of William Holmes, Burnaby's first settler. The gravestone is inscribed: "Here lies the Remains of Jno Holmes of Three Castles who depd this life May 10 1824 Aged 100 yrs. Also his son Gabriel Holmes who depd this life June 20 1824 Aged 46 yrs".
