An accompanying note identifies the photograph as: "McMurray family outside the 'old Gilley Ranch' which they bought in 1906. This property had previously been used by Gilley Brothers Logging Company as a bunkhouse site and resting place for the horses engaged in heavy logging work. The woods around this house were crossed and re-crossed by skid roads at this time. Note the stove pipe through the roof of the house. There were no fire regulations then." Scope and Content: Photograph of a house identified as belonging to Mr. Patterson. There is a discrepancy as to which Mr. Patterson the house belongs to. The accession register suggests the house is D.C. Patterson's house, while the inscription on the photograph suggests it is B. (Bruce) Patterson's. The house is two storeys tall, with a balcony on the second floor. There are long cloth blinds on the second floor windows, and two people on the balcony. One of them (identified as B. Patterson) is holding the lower cloth blinds. There is a foot path lined with rocks winding around the house. There is also a discrepancy as to where the house is located. The inscription suggests the house was at Patterson Avenue, while the catalogue record suggests that the house was in the Edmonds area. An annotation on the back of the photo reads: "B. Patterson's 1st house at Patterson Ave: holding lower cloth blinds."

History: Between 1914 and 1920, Wallace Whiting was awarded at local exhibitons and fairs for a variety of his home grown vegetables. This house may be located in New Westminster. Wallace and Annie Whiting resided in New Westminster and Burquitlam until 1937 when Wallace Whiting retired. Following his retirement, Wallace and Annie resided at 360 18th Avenue in Burnaby.

Scope and Content: Photograph of men in work clothes clearing Doulgas Road. A group of men to the right side of the photograph have shovels in their hands and are clearing rocks from the road. There is a small girl in a blouse and skirt standing beside two horses pulling a cart. Behind her is a group of men in work clothes as well. There is fenced land to the right of the photograph, and electric power poles and trees line both sides of the road. The accession register and inscription on the photograph identify this as Douglas Road (later renamed in part Canada Way). An annotation on the back of the photo reads: "Working on Douglas Road on hill above Burnaby Lake. No Date."
