- Metal tin box; rectangular gold-coloured label containing black Chinese characters on short side of box; two metal oblong rings, at either end, on top of box; crumpled gold-coloured paper in box.

- Label contains Chinese characters that are literally translated to: "mountain"; "bean". When adjusted for English comprehension, product is "Skin of Radix Sophorae Tonkinensis." It is the root and rhizoma of Sophora tonkinensis Gapnep. It has a bean-like smell and extremely bitter taste. It is bitter, cold, and toxic, and enters the lung and stomach meridians. It clears heat and toxicity, removes sore throat and relieves swelling. It is used for abscesses with swelling due to heat-toxicity, as well as cough due to lung-heat and jaundice due to damp-heat.
