- Anne Elizabeth Stokes was born in Misson, BC and raised in Surrey, BC. She married Vancouver Police Department Constable Charles Boyes in 1947, and Major Rolf F. Macey in 1965. Anne and Rolf had two children: son Lane Macey and daughter Naomi Macey.
Anne worked as a psychiatric nurse at Essondale Hospital and Director of Volunteer Services at Burnaby General Hospital. She volunteered her time for various clubs, including Save the Children and Dixon House.
Anne passed away at Eagle Ridge Manor in Port Moody, BC in 2007.

- History
- George Jeffery was a well-respected Burnaby police constable, having served first as a solider. Upon joining the police force in 1912, he was appointed to patrol the Central Park district, a position he held for 22 years. From his experiences confronting young shoplifters, he determined the reason groups of boys were getting into trouble was due to a lack of recreational activities on offer. He established the Burnaby Athletics Association in an old barn behind the Royal Oak Hotel to combat this, turning it into a competitive boxing ring and gym.
George and his wife Harriet lived most of their married life in Central Park district with their three daughters: Patricia, a teacher in Burnaby prior to her marriage; Winnifred, Burnaby's 1929 May Queen; and Elsie who excelled at badminton. Patricia married William Poole; Winnifred married Fred Shaughnessy; and Elsie married Art Winteford.
In 1935, when the BC Provincial police replaced the Burnaby Police, George quit the force in order to stay in Burnaby and worked at Oakalla Prison farm. He retired in 1945.

- History
- Burnaby's first library was founded in 1927 as the North Burnaby Library Association. Its first library building was established in 1935 on Hastings Street.
In 1954, Burnaby enacted Bylaw No. 3522 to establish the Burnaby Public Library (BPL) and in 1957 BPL merged with the North Burnaby Library Association. BPL's first permanent library was the McGill branch, built in North Burnaby in 1961 and named after North Burnaby Library Association volunteer Grace McGill.
Following McGill, BPL then established the Kingsway branch, Central Park branch, and Cameron branch. Central Park was replaced by the Bob Prittie Metrotown branch in 1991 and Kingsway with the Tommy Douglas branch in 2009.

- Gladys M. Yeomans married Alfred Charles “Charlie” Killip in St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church in Vancouver on August 16, 1947. They spent their honeymoon together at the Sunset Inn at Qualicum Beach. The Killips lived in the same house in South Burnaby for the greater part of their married lives. Their address began as 729 Marshall, changed to 729 Hazelmere Street in 1951 (due to bylaw 3133) and again to 7763 Hazelmere Street (due to 1958/1959 street re-numbering).
The Killips were activists within Burnaby, writing letters to their member of Council when they felt that the citizens of Burnaby were not being treated fairly. An example of this is when they led the protest against Pacific Stage Lines for reducing its service on the Grandview Highway by making fewer stops and by changing its route. Gladys led their delegation to Council in June of 1964.
Gladys was also involved in the activities of the Valley View Players and in Burnaby Little Theatre activities. She was part of the cast of “Crime at Blossoms” in 1951 and held a membership card from 1952 to 1959 for the Valley View Players Club. Among other roles, she was one of the principle actors in “You Can’t Take it With You” and “In the Shadow of the Glen” both performed in 1957.
Gladys was the Burnaby Council of Women Publicity Co-Chairwoman. In this capacity she helped to organize such events as the "100 Years of Progress in Women's Activities, Arts and Crafts" for the Centennial Celebration in 1967 (the Burnaby Diamond Jubilee). She was also a founding member of the Century Park Museum Association, which created under the auspices of the Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee, to administer Burnaby's Centennial '71 Commemorative Project, Heritage Village.
Both Gladys and Charles Killip were active members of the Monarchist League of Canada. Gladys’ hobby started with a small silver spoon commemorating King George VI taking the throne in 1936. Her collection includes items commemorating every Royal from Prince Edward, Queen Victoria's father, to a cup commemorating one of Prince Williams recent birthdays. Gladys opened the Silver Spoon collectors shop in Burnaby in 1974 and operated it until 1980 when she and her husband Charlie retired to Qualicum Beach and opened Chilham Village Antiques and Collectables in 1984. The Killips earned a Silver Badge of Service from the Monarchist League of Canada in 1992 for their significant contribution to the League’s work.
As of November 2010, Ms. Gladys Yeomans’ collection of British Royal family memorabilia has grown so large, that she has countless of mugs, spoons, plates, t-shirts and pieces of poetry, filling a room in her basement and upstairs in her home in Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

- Rose Croucher was born to Ann Eliza "Annie" (b. August 1861, d. 1962) and R. Coucher in January 1895. In 1907, the Croucher family moved to British Columbia. As a student, Rose studied geometrical drawing using Blair’s Canadian Drawing Series workbooks.
On on February 21, 1914, Rose married James Oakes Bancroft in Vancouver, BC. Together they had three children: James A. (b. 1916 or 1917), Rosie (date unknown), and George E. (b. August 1927).
The Bancroft family were poultry farmers throughout the early 1900s, transporting their farmed eggs from Burnaby to the Hudson’s Bay Company Vancouver using the British Columbia Electric Railway system. Rose Bancroft also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Central Park Poultry Co-op Association in the 1920s until her husband's death in 1930 at the age of 42.
In the late thirties and early forties, while James A. Bancroft was stationed in Calgary with the Royal Canadian Air Force, his younger siblings lived together with their mother and grandmother at 1963 21st Avenue in Burnaby. Rosie Bancroft studied French and English history in Social Studies in 1937; her brother George studied the seasons in General Science II in 1942.
Rose died in 1965 at the age of 76.

- Eber Stride was born in Somerset England, one of three brothers, along with Albert and Sydney. Older brother Sydney came to Canada with Eber and Eber’s wife Mary in 1888 and settled in New Westminster. Both bricklayers by trade, Sydney soon began operating the brickyard at Queen’s Park.
Mary McKinnon was born in Dorset, England on October 1, 1857. Her father, Hugh McKinnon worked as a coast guard. Mary worked as a school teacher in Somerset for nine years before marrying Eber Stride on April 28, 1888 and relocating to Canada.
Eber and Mary were living at Royal Avenue in New Westminster when their first child Charles Edgar was born on February 24, 1890. Their second child, Edwin Hubert was born November 26, 1892.
In May of 1893 the family of four moved to Burnaby. Their third child, Marguerite "Margaret" Ella, was born in Burnaby on April 2, 1895. The Stride family owned and operated Stride and Son Florist Green houses located at their residence at 1749 Kingsway (later renumbered 7434 Kingsway).
Eber joined the municipal council a year after its incorporation and served for nineteen consecutive years; from 1894-1911 and again in 1913. Eber and Mary were life-long members of the St. Alban’s Anglican Church in Burnaby, dating back to the Churchs’ beginings. The Strides are considered Edmonds district pioneers.
The Stride children attended Westside School and later Royal City High School. Both sons worked for the family florist business after they left school. Edwin continued working there, applying for a chauffeur licence renewal in September of 1916 at the age of twenty-three. Edwin and Eber operated the business together for over 40 years.
Charles Edgar didn’t stay a florist long. Instead, he had a brief career building houses before travelling to San Francisco by bicycle with a friend to attend the World’s Fair. He continued on to Tijuana, Mexico before heading home to join the Reserves and head overseas. Once back in New Westminster, Charles Edgar opened a series of photographic studios along Columbia Street. His first studio was Universal Photographers, operating from 1918 to 1925. He opened Brighton Studios at 657 Columbia Street as well from 1924 to 1925. In 1926 he opened Stride Studios at 657 Columbia Street, which thrived until 1968 when an unfortunate fire in a neighbouring business destroyed most of his prints and negatives. In 1928 he bought Columbia Studio across the street at 624 Columbia Street and owned it anonymously until 1960. For thirty years, no one knew that he owned both businesses and was able to send disgruntled customers “across the street to the competition.”
Margaret Stride married and became Margaret Hokanson.
Mary Stride died September 24, 1933 at the age of 75. Eber died November 8, 1942 at the age of 84. Edwin died April 16, 1970 at the age of 77. Charles Edgar died February 29, 1972 at the age of 82.
Stride Avenue in Burnaby was named after Eber Stride.
