Description: This is a 1924 Ford Model T touring car with folding top and open sides. The body and upholstery is black. This vehicle has a battery and can be started with a key. It can be started by crank when necessary. It has electric head lights. This vehicle is in running order. Because this is a Canadian made Ford, both front doors are fuctional.

Object History: The donor bought the vehicle from a friend who brought it to the Lower Mainland from the Kamloops area where it had been stored in a barn. It is believed to have belonged to a doctor in Kamloops.

Description: This vehicle is a 1924 Ford Model T converted to a light delivery truck known as a "Depot Hack". The original body has been removed and an open wooden truck body has been custom built for the vehicle. The metal parts of the vehicle are painted black and the wood (mahogany?) is finished with a clear varnish. The radiator core is protected by a honeycombed front grill. The radiator cowling has the maker's brand stamped in the top. There is a white commercial license plate with red lettering mounted on right front of the dash, next to lamp. The vehicle has two electric front headlights and one rear light. It also has two incomplete carriage lamps screwed to the dash. There is one manual windshield wiper mounted on the vertical windshield. There is a horseshoe mounted on the right side inside of the dashboard. The "Buzz" coil box is mounted in the centre of the dash with a odometer on the left and key and meters on the right. The wheels have wood spokes and steel rims.

Object History: This 1924 Ford Model T vehicle may have arrived in Steveston around 1925 and used by a local family. The 1924 Ford Model T Depot Hack truck was built from the running gear of the original Model T Ford by Ernie Harrison. Ernie purchased the running gear of the Ford Model T around 1966 and built it from the ground up. Ernie took measurements from a "Depot Hack" that belonged to a collector in Vancouver and combed swap meets in British Columbia and Washington State in search of original car parts. Ernie belonged to the Model A and Model T Ford Club and took this truck in many parades. Around 1969, the truck was sold to a private collector before being sold to another collector in 1995. The vehicle was acquired by the Burnaby Village Museum in 1997. The Depot Hack rear body is not authentic but the original concept has been retained.

Description: This Tudhope Everitt 30 automobile has been fully restored in the past. The open, touring body is blue with white trim. The head lamps are brass are gas flame lights. The gas generator is mounted on the right running board. There are two carriage style lamps mounted on the dash to supplement the headlights. The windshield is braced by rods running from the front fenders. The top is fabric and folds at the back when it is down. The wheels are wood spoked with steel rims. The steering wheel is mounted on the right hand side of the vehicle. The engine has four cylinders.

Object History: Donor's family is second to own this car. Used in North Vancouver area. 1911 Tudehope Everitt Touring Car Manufactured by The Tudhope Motor Co., Orillia, Ontario from parts supplied by Metzger Motor Co., Detroit, Michigan, U.S. A.

Scope and Content: Subseries consists of publications, ephemera and photographs pertaining to the Bailey family.

History: Charles William Bailey was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on September 1, 1887. Shortly after, his family moved to the west coast. After the Vancouver fire of 1896, his family moved to Burnaby and acquired seven acres of government-offered land. Charles married Sapperton-born Minnie Bendle Booth in New Westminster on January 2, 1914, just seven days shy of her sixteenth birthday. Charles worked for Vancouver Iron Works and the couple lived at 1505 11th Avenue in Burnaby. Their first child, Frank Albert William Bailey was born at the house on May 19, 1916. Winnifred Patricia Bailey was born in the same house May 25, 1918. Theodore Bailey was born August 8, 1919 but only lived until August 12 of the same year. Their fourth child, Norman Charles Edward "Charlie" Bailey was born at the Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster, BC on September 1, 1922. Frank was a member of Division XIII at Kingsway West School in 1922. Winnifred was a member of class seven at Burnaby South High School in 1932. By 1958, both Charlie and Frank were married and Minnie and Charles had three grandsons and one granddaughter. From 1922, the family lived at 3125 Kathleen Avenue, Burnaby (later renumbered 6080 Kathleen Avenue). In 1995, the Bailey family house at 6080 Kathleen Avenue was acquired by the City of Burnaby as part of the Metrotown Development Plan. The property was purchased for land development purposes and the house demolished.

History: Kapoor Singh Siddoo was born in 1885 in the Punjab village of Kharaudi, India. Kapoor was one of the pioneer South Asian Canadian Sikhs who immigrated to America in 1906 and onto Canada in 1912. Kapoor first arrived in San Francisco in 1906, along with twenty uneducated men from the Province of Punjab, India. Kapoor was the only one among these men who was educated so acted as their interpreter, manager and accountant. They worked along the Southern Pacific Railway line near Marysville, California, toward Reno and Nevada. Kapoor heard about the beauty of British Columbia and decided to travel to the west coast but times were tough with discrimination against all South Asians in British Columbia. With this information, Kapoor traveled east to Northern Ontario where he tried homesteading for a year but the extreme winter conditions didn’t appeal to him. Kapoor returned to British Columbia after receiving word from South Asian Canadians that they were in need of an educated accountant/manager for a sawmill. In 1923, with the change in immigration laws, Kapoor arranged for his wife, Besant Kaur to emigrate from India. Besant came to Canada accompanied by Kapoor’s older brother. Kapoor and Besant had two daughters, both born in Duncan B.C. Jagdis Kaur Siddoo was born in 1925 and Sarjit Kaur Siddoo was born in 1926. Both of their daughters graduated as doctors from University of Toronto medical school. His career in B.C. began as a lumberman for a large lumber mill on Vancouver Island until 1935. Following this, Kapoor established the Kapoor Lumber Company Limited and operated a mill at Shawnigan Lake before eventually purchasing 45 acres in 1939 of the eastern section of the former Barnet Mill site in Burnaby. He purchased the site from the Municipality of Burnaby under the name of Modern Sawmills Limited since there was a restriction on selling this piece of a property to a non-white person. Eventually the name was changed to Kapoor Sawmills Limited. Kapoor’s company was a financial success but was tragically razed on January 14, 1947 due to a devastating fire. A smaller mill was rebuilt on the site and Kapoor maintained a successful financial operation until 1959. In 1959, Kapoor Siddoo was considered one of Vancouver’s most influential men in the South Asian Community. In this same year, the family set up the Kapoor Singh Siddoo Foundation and with help from his wife and daughters opened a hospital in the Punjab village of Aur. In 1964, Kapoor died in India at the age of 79 years. Kapoor’s younger brother, Tara Singh Siddoo came to Canada from India in 1906 but after suffering discrimination, he returned to India in 1912. Several years later Tara returned to Canada joining Kapoor at a logging mill on Vancouver Island. Lesser shares of the mill were held by Tara and other family members. Tara and his wife, Beant Siddoo lived at Barnet between 1943 and 1945, with their family of five sons, Lakhbeer, Gurdeb, Gurcharn, Baldev, Hardev and three daughters, Harjeet (Sangha), Runjeet (Basi) and Buckshish (Sarai). One of Tara’s responsibilities was to oversee the logging camp and ensure that the logs arrived regularly from Cowichan Bay near Duncan to the Barnet logging mill.

Description: Beading machine. Metal handle with gears which roll together. Vice at bottom to attach to table. "The Brown boggs Co. Limited Makers, Hamilton , Ontario" Has three sets of beading dies (three pairs) single bead, triple bead and ogee.

Object History: Tinsmith's turning machine. Designed to turn a burred edge on a piece of sheet metal. The base clamps on to a bench and the machine head is secured to the base by a set screw. A hand crank turns two forming wheels which shape the metal between them.

Kapoor was one of the pioneer South Asian Canadian Sikhs who immigrated to America in 1906 and onto Canada in 1912. Kapoor first arrived in San Francisco in 1906, along with twenty uneducated men from the Province of Punjab, India. Kapoor was the only one among these men who was educated so acted as their interpreter, manager and accountant. They worked along the Southern Pacific Railway line near Marysville, California, toward Reno and Nevada. Kapoor heard about the beauty of British Columbia and decided to travel to the west coast but times were tough with discrimination against all South Asians in British Columbia. With this information, Kapoor traveled east to Northern Ontario where he tried homesteading for a year but the extreme winter conditions didn’t appeal to him. Kapoor returned to British Columbia after receiving word from South Asian Canadians that they were in need of an educated accountant/manager for a sawmill. In 1923, with the change in immigration laws, Kapoor arranged for his wife, Besant Kaur to emigrate from India. Besant came to Canada accompanied by Kapoor’s older brother. Kapoor and Besant had two daughters, both born in Duncan B.C. Jagdis Kaur Siddoo was born in 1925 and Sarjit Kaur Siddoo was born in 1926. Both of their daughters graduated as doctors from University of Toronto medical school. His career in B.C. began as a lumberman for a large lumber mill on Vancouver Island until 1935. Following this, Kapoor established the Kapoor Lumber Company Limited and operated a mill at Shawnigan Lake before eventually purchasing 45 acres in 1939 of the eastern section of the former Barnet Mill site in Burnaby. He purchased the site from the Municipality of Burnaby under the name of Modern Sawmills Limited since there was a restriction on selling this piece of a property to a non-white person. Eventually the name was changed to Kapoor Sawmills Limited. Kapoor’s company was a financial success but was tragically razed on January 14, 1947 due to a devastating fire. A smaller mill was rebuilt on the site and Kapoor maintained a successful financial operation until 1959. In 1959, Kapoor Siddoo was considered one of Vancouver’s most influential men in the South Asian Community. In this same year, the family set up the Kapoor Singh Siddoo Foundation and with help from his wife and daughters opened a hospital in the Punjab village of Aur. In 1964, Kapoor died in India at the age of 79 years. Kapoor’s younger brother, Tara Singh Siddoo came to Canada from India in 1906 but after suffering discrimination, he returned to India in 1912. Several years later Tara returned to Canada joining Kapoor at a logging mill on Vancouver Island. Lesser shares of the mill were held by Tara and other family members. Tara and his wife, Beant Siddoo lived at Barnet between 1943 and 1945, with their family of five sons, Lakhbeer, Gurdeb, Gurcharn, Baldev, Hardev and three daughters, Harjeet (Sangha), Runjeet (Basi) and Buckshish (Sarai). One of Tara’s responsibilities was to oversee the logging camp and ensure that the logs arrived regularly from Cowichan Bay near Duncan to the Barnet logging mill.

Description: Girl's black bicycle, made by Canadian Cycle and Motor Co. (CCM).There is a string netting over the rear wheel and drive chain to prevent long skirts getting caught. A bent wood strip loops over the chain drive to act as additional protection. There is a small, leather, tool kit attached to the back of the leather seat. The hand grips are also leather.
