- This small Edwardian-era bungalow home was built and owned by Burnaby resident Jane Sincock (1848-1940) and her husband Thomas Sincock (1844-1916) as an investment rental property. By 1916, the couple was living in New Westminster, on Bole Street, where Jane, who was born in Cornwall, remained until her death. This substantial bungalow is distinguished by its bellcast hipped roof and dormers, an octagonal corner bay, and a small front verandah supported by square tapered columns. The house retains its original lapped wooden siding though the windows have been replaced.

- History
- William Henry "Henry" Rowling was born February 9, 1826 in Truro, Cornwall, England. His wife, Mary Russell Rowling, was born November 19, 1832 in Strickland, Dorset, England. Their first child, Rosetta Mary "Rose" Rowling, was born August 8, 1858 in Plumstead, Woolwhich, Kent while Henry was in Esquimalt working as a Royal Engineer. The family then moved to New Westminster, and grew larger: James William Russell "Jim" Rowling born October 14, 1862; Henry Soar Rowling was born February 3, 1864; Priscilla Amelia Rowling (later Byrne) was born February 24, 1866; and William Henry Kemp Rowling was born September 2, 1867. The family settled at their farm on the North Arm of the Fraser River in September of 1868. They raised livestock and grew produce on their property for their family, which continued to grow. Thomas George Rowling was born on April 14, 1869 and Elizabeth Jane Russell Rowling was born on August 24, 1847. The Rowling children were raised Presbyterian but Priscilla later converted to Roman Catholicism when she married her husband, Peter Byrne, on May 15, 1892. As young adults, Priscilla and Peter lived on the North Arm, close to Priscilla's parents and youngest sister, Elizabeth. Her brother Henry moved his logging operations near the Byrne residence while James lived in South Vancouver with a family of his own. Their other siblings, Rose and Thomas, had passed away by this time. Peter and Priscilla had six children: Margaret Gladys Byrne, born February 28, 1893; twin daughters Mary and Norah; Kathleen; Ultan Patrick "Pat"; and Elizabeth Laura Byrne (later Cyr). After Henry and Mary Rowlings died in 1906, Elizabeth lived with her sister Priscilla and her nieces and nephews.

- Alice (nee Lowry) (1879-1954) and Percy Mallett (1882-1955) were married in Vancouver, British Columbia on January 26, 1910. Alice Lowry was born in Kinnear’s Mills, Quebec and Percy Mallett was born in Cornwall, England. Alice and Percy had four children Percival “Perc” (1916-1971), Alan (1919-2006), Dorothy (1923-2016) and a son who died in infancy. Alice and Percy resided in Vancouver until 1914. In 1915, they moved to 3965 Cambridge Street in Burnaby and lived there with their three children until 1934. The Mallett family lived at various other locations in Burnaby including 4119 East Hastings (1935-1937), 4075 Triumph Street (1938-1949) and 4211 Oxford Street (1950-1954). All three children attended Gilmore Avenue School and North Burnaby High School. After graduating from North Burnaby High School, Dorothy Mallett worked at B.C. Telephone and B.C. Electric in downtown Vancouver. Dorothy attended University of British Columbia for one year with her earnings from these jobs. While working at B.C. Electric, Dorothy met her future husband, Charles McDonald "Mac" Atkinson. In 1949, Dorothy Mallett married Charles McDonald “Mac” Atkinson at Willingdon Heights United Church in Burnaby with Dorothy’s brother, Reverend Percival Mallett officiating. In 1965, Dorothy and Mac moved to Nanaimo. Dorothy taught piano and was an accomplished singer and musician performing in various recitals. Dorothy died in 2016 and her husband Mac Atkinson died in 2012.

- A.W. Dow went to boarding school in Truro, Cornwall, United Kingdom. A.W. Dow came to the Lochdale Community in 1928. He learnt of the Lochdale store being up for sale through his bride-to-be’s brother, bought it, and became the postmaster and Lochdale General Store owner from 1928 until 1937, renaming it Dow's General Store. In 1937, he and his wife left the store at Hastings Street, bought property and built a combination house and store at 599 Sperling Avenue. A.W. served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Rate Payers' Association. As well, he and his wife were charter members of the Lochdale Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF).

- Biographical Notes
- Ethel Cecilia Leer was born in 1899 in London, England to George Frederick and Sarah Ann Leer. In 1908, the Leer family immigrated to Vancouver, Canada. George Frederick Leer began working for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Ethel’s younger brother George Leer was born about this time. A third child was born but unfortunately did not live past infancy. The Leers arrived in Burnaby in 1911 and bought two lots in Alta Vista at the corner of Portland and McGregor. George Frederick and Sarah Ann were active members of the All Saints Anglican Church on Royal Oak. Ethel went to Dundonald school from 1911 to 1913 with Miss Bowell as her teacher, then on to Britannia High School from 1913 to 1915. Ethel’s father, George Frederick Leer died March 23, 1919 at the age of forty-one. Ethel Cecilia Leer married Alfred Lewarne on December 26, 1921 in Burnaby. Alfred was born February 9, 1893 in Cornwall, England. Before marriage he worked for a creamery in Vancouver. After marriage, Alfred began his own ice cream business in Burnaby. The Lewarnes bought a lot along Nelson Avenue and built a house. Their first child Patricia "Tricia" (later McCleod) was born in 1923, their second was Beverley “Bev” (later Burrell). Their third child, William A. “Bill” Lewarne was born in 1926. Bill grew up to become one of the most popular Mayors in Burnaby’s history, serving from 1981 to 1987. He also served as a member of Council from 1973 to 1975 and 1977 to 1981. After Alfred Lewarne’s death on May 5, 1962 at the age of sixty-nine, Ethel continued living in the family home. Ethel’s mother, Sarah Ann Leer died May 11, 1963 at the age of eighty-seven.

These interviews were undertaken after she completed her MA at Simon Fraser University in 1975 with the support of an LIP grant.
