Council, at the regular Council meeting held on November 20, 1989 adopted a report to reorganize the committee structure by grouping related subjects and establishing 5 standing committees. The Ad Hoc Committee on Dog Control was dissolved and all matters relating to dog control became the responsibility of the Community Issues and Social Planning Committee.

- The Chevron Green Belt / Buffer Zone Advisory Committee was established in 1997.
This committee was created in order review the Chevron Green Belt area prepared in 1975. The Committee was responsible for organizing public and staff input regarding the boundaries of the buffer zone, road patterns, and trail routing, landscaping, and ensuring a positive relationship with the adjoining neighbourhood.
The Chevron Green Belt / Buffer Zone Advisory Committee disbanded at the end of 1999.

- The Court of Revision was established in 1989.
The Court of Revision had the authority to revise the voters' list, the real property assessment roll, the business tax roll, and local improvement proposals, as determined by provincial statutes. It was also responsible for considering any complaints regarding assessment rolls and imposing parcel taxes. A Court of Revision was scheduled each year to provide an opportunity for property owners to appeal Local Area Services and Sewer Parcel taxes that were being charged for the first time. The assessments confirmed by the Court of Revision were the basis for the preparation of Local Area Services and Sewer Assessment tax rolls.
In 2015, the Court of Revision became known as the Parcel Tax Roll Review Panel.

- Executive Committee was established on November 20, 1989.
This committee assumed the responsibilities of the existing Finance Advisory Committee, the Exempt Staff Committee of Council, and the Council Procedures Committee. In January 2015, the responsibility for reviewing nominations and making recommendations for the City’s Citizen of the Year (Kushiro Cup recipient) was transferred to the Executive Committee of Council. The Committee advises on provision of grants to help cultural, athletic and volunteer assistance groups that provide a service or promote activities that are beneficial to Burnaby. This Committee also deals with human resource issues related to Senior Exempt staff and any other matters referred by Council.
The Executive Committee of Council was integrated with the Financial Management Committee on February 20, 2017.
On January 23, 2019 Council passed a report to dissolve the previous integration of The Executive Committee of Council with The Financial Management Committee, and once again have it be a stand-alone committee.
