Early Burnaby as recalled by the settlers themselves who arrived from every corner of the world between 1888 and 1930, some witnessing incorporation of the district in 1892, all seeking a better life for themselves and especially for their children, all helping transform the wilderness into the modern municipality of today.

On the lower front border of the photograph, the number "21" is written with a fine, purple felt marker and a star is drawn on the bottom right corner of the border in red felt marker. The back side of the photograph have a lightly, stamped set of numbers "03[..]1" and "10.5.[..]". A script, handwritten "office & Drug preparation area" in purple felt marker is written across the back of the photograph as well.
Scope and Content
Photograph of an office desk inside Way Sang Yuen Wat Kee & Co., 1620 Government Street, Victoria. The wooden desk holds large, deep drawers underneath on each side. A bottom shelf rests underneath the table and drawers held by the table legs. On top of the desk is a desk pad with a pad of receipts or order form on it. The left inner corner of the desk holds an adding machine. The ledge holds a 4 x 6 framed picture of a sail boat, just above the adding machine and a contraption screwed on the back of the desk that holds a nibbed pen. The right most corner of the desk has a dark col., capped bottle that might appear as an ink bottle. Hanging above the the desk is a light bulb. The desk is up against a wainscoting wall with five clipboards hooked to it. The clipboards appear to hold files or forms. Two of the clipboards have "THE OTTAWA FILE", "The Eclipse Manufacturing Co. Limited OTTAWA, CAN" attached to them and the others have an office form with "Office Specialty [...]" and "Office Filing [...]." The forms and clipboards appear to be damaged on the edges.
