Object History
From the Yanko family home in Burnaby. Storage case made by John Yanko, father, Barbie clothes made by Lillian Yanko, mother. Toys used by daughters Rhonda and Charmaine Yanko. Annie D. Basiuk (later Yanko) was born on February 25, 1902 in Sheho, Saskatchewan (formerly Sheho, North West Territories). Daniel "Dan" Yanko was born in Kobilnicha, Ukraine in 1887 and immigrated to Canada in May or June of 1905. Daniel Yanko married Annie D. Basiuk and had thirteen children together. Their son, John Ivan Yanko was born on the family farm, near Kelliher, Saskatchewan, on June 27, 1923. In grade six, John was pulled out of school to help support the family. Eugenia “Jenny” Haresomovych (later Carman) was born August 8, 1904 in Galecia, Austria. She came to Canada in 1928, when her parents sent her to live with the Austrian consular in Halifax. A year later, she was in The Pas with Albert Edward Carman, with whom she would have three children. Their daughter, Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman was born in The Pas, Manitoba March 24, 1929. Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) Carman later re-married Joseph Nagy who was born in Hungary in October 3, 1900. Jenny, Joseph and the children moved to Nelson, British Columbia, where Joseph worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the age of twenty, John Yanko met his future wife Lillian Doris Carman while visiting relatives in Burnaby. Lillian received a rail pass because of her dad’s employment with the CPR and at fourteen had gone to visit her Godmother in Burnaby. John Ivan Yanko and Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman were married October 16, 1948 in Nelson, British Columbia and moved into the basement of John’s sister’s house on Union Street. Lillian began working at the downtown Woodward’s store as a cashier in 1948. In 1950, the young couple bought property at 7385 (later renumbered 7391) Broadway in Burnaby and began constructing a house as they could afford it. Knowing she’d be let go if she was pregnant, when Lillian was expecting her first child, Jenny sewed her several versions of the same outfit; they all used the same material, but each was a little bit larger than the last to accommodate her expanding girth. Rhonda, born in 1953 and Charmaine, born in 1955, grew up in the Broadway home. They attended school at Sperling Elementary, and later at Burnaby North high school. Lillian left her job to be a stay-at-home mom when Rhonda was born, but that changed in 1963 when John and Charmaine were in a car accident that left John temporarily unable to work. Joseph Nagy died April 20, 1962; his wife Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) (Carman) Nagy passed away August 14, 1985. Daniel "Dan" Yanko died in 1976; his wife Annie D. (Basiuk) Yanko died in 1997. John Yanko later returned to work, establishing his own tile setting business and working until age eighty-two. John and Lillian lived out the rest of their married lives on the Broadway property. John Ivan Yanko passed away in 2010; his wife Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman (Carman) Yanko passed away in 2011.

The rounded collar is edged with royal blue and trimmed with two layers of a faux bow, each navy one side and royal blue on the other. The bow is held on by a metal rhinestone brooch. The sleeves have two small pleats at the elbow, and end in a placket and cuff with a snap. The bodice puffs out slightly at the dropped waist, and there is a waist tie sewn into each side seam. Besides the ties, the whole back of the dress is straight and unadorned. Below the low waistline, on the front, there is a band of narrow horizontal tucks. There are two levels of flounces below the band lined with cotton under the top flounce. On the lower half of the lining, there is a black strip that extends as a long tab on the inner right side of the skirt, and as a short tab on the inner left. Three "male" snap ends are sewn on to the end of the long tab. The paper label sewn into the left cuff "Size 18 / Deckelbaum & Eisenberg, Montreal."

The shoulders on the bodice are spaced wide, forming a V neckline in the back and with sloping down to either side of the bottom centre front. A gathered and slightly puffed inner panel fills in the bottom of the square neckline at the front. The sleeves are lightly gathered at the sleeve caps, tapering down in a fitted sleeve to cuffs at the wrist with three bands of gathered ivory chiffon trim. The same trim is on the neckline and along the front panels to the waist. The waistband is made of a band of the main fabric, with one horizontal pleat running its length. The bodice points down at the centre front. Inside, the bodice is lined with cream silk taffeta and fifteen bones. There is also a label with an embroidered label that reads, "Sarah Fullerton Monteith Young / Mount Street Grosvenor Square." The lining closes at centre front with hooks and eyes, although there are also lacing holes along each side of the closure. Dress, c.1925-1929. Green silk chiffon. Sleeveless, straight cut, round neckline, scarf attached at right shoulder, dropped waist with skirt flounces, knee length. At each shoulder, there are five pin tucks, and at the right front shoulder there is a wide scarf as long as the dress that could be worn in a number of ways. At the dropped waist there is some very slight gathering in the bodice. The skirt has a plain inner layer and an outer layer that attaches to the back a few inches below the waistline. On the left front, the over skirt angles slightly downwards as it is attached to the side front. It is attached to the under skirt until it reaches just past the centre front; here it is cut and tacked down along the bias, draping straight down from that point in a flounce. At the right, the over skirt comes across the front for a few inches, then the top edge is turned down at a forty five degree angle and sewn in place. The rectangular piece of fabric would have been able to connect to the left seam, but instead it hangs draped on the left.

Wedding dress bodice, c.1900. Green silk taffeta. Trimmed with black lace and green bows. Standing collar, leg o' mutton sleeves, small puff at front, shirring at waist. The bodice has a standing collar covered in black lace, and a flounce of the same lace going down each side front. The shoulders are shirred with a self fabric bow at the front of each shoulder. The sleeves are heavily gathered at the armscye to create a puff at the shoulders, which tapers down to a fitted width at the wrist. There is no cuff, but there is a small slit so that the wearer's hand can fit through. The bodice has a box pleat at either side of centre front and one at centre back; each connects to the shirring at waist level, which extends as far as the pleats on both front and back. Beneath this, the bodice flares out as a peplum and ends at the hips. Inside, the bodice is lined in brown cotton. An inner lining closes at centre front with hooks and eyes, and the front of the bodice (which is lined itself) closes with hooks and thread eyes at the left side. This continues up to the shoulder, and the collar closes at centre back.

Object History
Obtained from the Bridge Studio Burnaby circa 2006. The Bridge Studios was built in 1987 on 15 acres of land that was formerly part of the Dominion Bridge bridge-building plant. From 1930 until the mid 1970s, Dominion Bridge constructed steel structures ranging from portions of the Golden Gate and Lions Gate Bridges to holding tanks for pulp mills. Several of the Dominion Bridge buildings were re-used by the studio, including the Cafeteria Building, the Boiler House, and the Compressor Building. In the mid-1970s filming began on a temporary basis in unused portions of the plant. In 1987, after lobby efforts by local film industry unions, guilds, and suppliers, the Government of British Columbia agreed to invest in renovating the site to create a permanent studio facility in order to ensure that BC had a stable base of operations for film production. The Bridge Studios, the first dedicated studio facility in Vancouver, opened for business in 1987 with television series "MacGyver" and the feature film "Stakeout" among the first productions to have used the facility.

Scope and Content
Photograph of an office desk with a back ledge or shelf attached to it. The wooden desk holds large, deep drawers underneath on each side. A bottom shelf rests underneath the table and drawers held by the table legs. On top of the desk is a desk pad with a pad of receipts or order form on it. The left inner corner of the desk holds an adding machine. The ledge holds a 4 x 6 framed picture of a sail boat, just above the adding machine and a contraption screwed on the back of the desk that holds a nibbed pen. The right most corner of the desk has a dark col., capped bottle that might appear as an ink bottle. Hanging above the the desk is a light bulb. The desk is up against a wainscoting wall with five clipboards hooked to it. The clipboards appear to hold files or forms. Two of the clipboards have "THE OTTAWA FILE", "The Eclipse Manufacturing Co. Administrative History
Way Sang Yuen Wat Kee & Co (WSYWK) was an herbalist shop operating in Victoria from 1905 until 1967. From 1905 until 1926, the shop was located on Fisgard Street. In 1926, the shop relocated to 1710 Government Street where they ran the business until 1935 when they purchased "Wah Sun" in the Lee Block located at 1620 Government Street. Contents of both shops were combined with the elaborate fixtures of "Way Sang Yuen Wat Kee & Co." installed at the front of the shop and the plainer fixtures of "Wah Sun" moved to the work and storage areas. The rear of the shop also operated as an unofficial post office for recent Chinese immigrants.
