Copeland expressed a request on behalf of council and the citizens of the Corporation of the District of Burnaby, that the district be granted arms by lawful authority as a permanent memorial to honour Burnaby's Centennial of Incorporation in 1992. On the 13th day of March 1991, the Chief Herald of Canada authorized amorial bearings that were fitting and appropriate to Burnaby.
