- Concerned that Burnaby might be losing its educational history, the Retired Teachers’ Association of Burnaby formed the History of Education Committee. The Committee made efforts to assemble types of information that could help in the preparation of school histories, and once this information was assembled, they wrote the “Introductory Resource Materials on Burnaby Schools / 1894-1991” report which gives a one page "introduction" to each school in the Burnaby district, past and present.

Interviews were focused on the subject of the interior and exterior of the farmhouse from a first person perspective. - The Traffic Safety Committee was established on April 26, 1954. The Committee advises on ways to improve the safety of Burnaby roads and streets. On November 20, 1989 all matters relating to traffic safety became the responsibility of the Traffic and Transportation Committee (Traffic Safety Division). On January 13, 2003 the Committee returned to being known as the Traffic Safety Committee. The Traffic Safety Committee was integrated with the Public Safety Committee on February 20, 2017. On January 23, 2019 Council passed a report to once again create The Traffic Safety Committee as a stand-alone committee.

- The Traffic and Transportation Committee was established on November 20, 1989. The Committee was immediately divided in two, creating the Traffic and Transportation Committee (Traffic Safety Division) and the Traffic and Transportation Committee (Transportation and Transit Division). The Traffic and Transportation Committee (Traffic Safety Division) was concerned with matters of traffic safety including the installation of crosswalks, parking bans, traffic safety at playgrounds, and producing reports on the safety in Burnaby neighbourhoods and at schools. On January 13, 2003 these committees returned to their previously known names; the Traffic Safety Committee and Transportation Committee.

- The Community Policing Committee was established on March 21, 1994. The purpose of this committee was to advise Council on directions and strategies for community policing and crime prevention strategies; to serve as a liaison between Council, district community consultative committees, and the RCMP; and to serve as a link between those groups and the broader community. On January 26, 2015, the Committee’s name was changed from the Community Policing Committee to the Public Safety Committee.

- The Environment Committee (formerly the Environment and Waste Management Committee) was established on January 13, 2003. The Committee advises on issues such as minimizing environmental pollution, conserving and enhancing Burnaby’s natural landscape, and ensuring that new developments respect their natural surroundings. The Environment Committee and Social Planning Committee were integrated into the Sustainable City Advisory Committee in 2017. The Environment Committee was struck again in January of 2020.

- The Social Issues Committee was established January 13, 2003 to replace the Community Issues and Social Planning Committee. The Social Issues Committee advised on a variety of social issues including crime prevention, leasing space at Burnaby’s Community Resource Centres, and the needs of seniors, youth, families, ethnic groups and persons with disabilities. On January 26, 2015, the Social Issues Committee changed its name to the Social Planning Committee.
