John (Jack) Bancroft Waplington and Sarah Alice Cogswell Waplington (nee Nickerson) were the owners of the house and property located at 3813 Deer Lake Avenue from 1925 to 1946. Ray and Frances Louise Fleming (nee Waplington) owned the home from 1947 to 1958. In 1959 the Burnaby Municipality purchased the Fleming property at this location and rented it out for several years prior to it's demolition around 1970 to make way for Burnaby Heritage Village.

- File consists of pamphlets and instructions regarding excercises in using the flag semaphore system which utilizes two short poles with square flags, which are held in different positions to signal letters of the alphabet and numbers. The signalperson holds one pole in each hand, and extends each arm in one of eight possible directions. It was once considered a core Girl Guide skill to send messages with flags and/or flashlights.
