The original scrapbook is titled: "Scrapbook / Presented to / 5th Burnaby Brownie Pack / by Mrs. M. Bate / April 7th 1948" . Scope and Content: File consists of a scrapbook with a handpainted wood cover titled "50th Anniversary / G.G.C". The scrapbook documents events and ceremonies of the 4th Guide Company with the first half of the scrapbook containing photographs and documents regarding the 50th Anniversary of Girl Guides which was celebrated at St. Nicholas Church in 1960 while the second half documents earlier events from 1926, as well as other events in the 1960s such as; "Year of the Golden Jubilee", a parade in North Burnaby as well as Thinking Day 1976-1978, banquets, a disco contest, camping on Hollyburn mountain and a visit to Victoria in 1979. On November 3rd, 1926 the company was registered as the 5th Burnaby Guide company, in 1951 the number was changed to the 4th Vancouver Guide Company and in 1956 the number was changed to the 4th Burnaby Company.

Scope and Content: Item consists of unedited film footage titled “1912 Parker Carousel / Restoration / 1991 to 1994" by Alex Matches. Film footage documents various stages of restoration of the carousel including, the carousel horses, the "doghouse" and Wurlitzer. There is some narration by the camera person but sound quality is poor and segments contain ambient noise. The footage is divided into segments marked by dates, visible in the bottom right corner. Dates range between April 1991 and March 1993. Some of this unedited footage could have been used for the Burnaby Village Museum film "Labour of Love - The Saving of Number 119" (see BV020.4.28). 00:00 - 03:23: Apr. 20, 1991 : Volunteers and staff working on the restoration of carousel horses in the Texaco warehouse. They are busy scraping away old paint. Various horses are suspended on frames while some are laid on their sides on work benches. 03:24 - 06:15: Nov. 2 1991 : Volunteers and staff working on scraping and sanding away old layers of paint on carousel horses in the Texaco warehouse. Some horses are getting repairs. A little narrative coming from camera operator but mostly ambient sound. Pieces of the "doghouse" are also visible. 06:16 - 08:20 : Dec. 28 1991 : Horses are in various stages of restoration and repair inside the Texaco warehouse. 08:21 - 09:40 : Dec. 28, 1991 : Volunteers are gathered in a lunch room taking a break. Views of carousel horses in another room of the warehouse which have been applied with a sealer. The Worlitzer is also visible during a stage of restoration. Volunteers are gathering inside and seating themselves on horses around the carousel for the Volunteers Grand Opening. The carousel begins to move with some volunteers riding various horses while the Wurlitzer plays in the background. 1:04:10 - 1:09:44 : March 27 1993 - Carousel is officially opened. Includes interviews by curator Colin Stevens with Friends of Carousel president, Don Wrigley and Dave Zieffert, Restorator of the Wurlitzer and Gordie Ironside who helped work with the restoration. Gordie demonstrates how each carousel horse was built using a prototype that was built for educational purposes.

Film footage is part of the B.C. Transit Centennial and includes a voice over commentary by Frank Horne and Vic Sharman. Frank and Vic worked as motormen on the BC Electric Railway. The trams are shown travelling through Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, North Delta, Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack. The excursion train was filmed in Washington State, U.S.A. The narrators give commentary, describing the routes, landmarks of the past and present, the various kinds of trams and buses seen, drivers’ protocols, and historical information. Scope and Content: Item consists of a silent CBUT News item from October 7, 1957 titled "Burnaby Mountain Sod Turning". The film documents the memorable occasion of the Burnaby Mountain Centennial Project with Lieutenant Governor Frank M. Ross providing a brief address to the attendees before taking a shovel to turn the sod. Other attendees identified include, Councillor Sam Hughes of the Centennial Committee and British Columbia Recreation Minister, Honourable Earl C. Westwood. This event marks the development of a portion of Burnaby Mountain park including the erection of a Centennial building which opened in 1958. The film footage captures views of Burrard Inlet from the mountain top as well as newly erected roads on Burnaby mountain. According to the Burnaby Adverstiser (Vol. 25 No. 27 - October 10, 1957 p.1), Lieutenant Governor Frank M. Ross provided a brief address for the sod turning ceremony which is quoted; "What Burnaby has undertaken is not merely to celebrate the Centennial observance, but it has started something which will last down through the years and provide a lot of pleasure for future generations."

History: This event marks the beginning of a Centennial project to develop a park and erect a pavillion as part of the British Columbia Centennial in 1958. In October 1956, a Burnaby Centennial Committee was appointed to govern over the project with the Reeve and Council at the head of the committee. Councillor S.E. Hughes was appointed as Chairman and W.M. Morrison as Vice Chairman with the organizational structure to include the provision for Honorary Vice Chairman, secretary, treasurer, advisory staff and representative delegates from community groups and working committees. In September 1957, the Centennial Committee submitted detailed plans for a proposed building to be located on the Centennial site on Burnaby Mountain together with a recommendation to create a Building Committee as part of the Centennial Committee. In November 1957, the Burnaby Centennial Committee recommended that the new road from Badger Street and Hastings Street to the Burnaby Mountain site be named Centennial Way. January 1958, councillors Mather and Jamieson were appointed to the committee by council to replace former council members that were no longer in office. Councillor Mather was appointed as Vice Chairman. CBUT station was owned by CBC and was first broadcast on December 16, 1953. "In 1975, the CBC consolidated its Vancouver radio and television operations into one building. Prior to this, CBC's Vancouver radio properties – CBU (690 AM), CBU-FM (105.7) and CBUF-FM (97.7) – had operated from a separate studio facility at 701 Hornby Street, within the basement of the Hotel Vancouver. Together, those stations formed the basis of the Regional Broadcast Centre at 700 Hamilton Street, a few blocks east of its previous radio and television facilities.

The scrapbook includes a photograph of the BC Council of Girl Guides at a banquet in West Vancouver community centre, a series of photographs entitled "Practical Weekend for Camper's License / Camp Olave / May 25 - 26, 1963"; a colour program for B.C. Commissioner Training in Kelowna 1965 and group portraits of Girl Guides and leaders ca. 1960. Eleanor Galbraith joined Canadian Girl Guides in 1952 in New Brunswick. She moved to BC and Burnaby Heights in 1954 where she became lieutenant in a local Guide Company. Through the years until 1985 she served as a Guide Captain, District Guider, District Commissioner and finally Division Commissioner of Burnaby Heights Division. She was a founding member of the Burnaby North Trefoil Guild and was awarded her 50 Years of Service award in 2005.
