The Buxton house remains a heritage landmark in Burnaby to this day. Leopold enlisted in the Canadian Infantry BC Regiment 7th Battlion during World War One. He died on April 24, 1915 and is buried at the Menin Gates (Ypres) memorial Belgium.

Thomas and Ellen Jane are standing next to each other in front of the house with their eldest son Gordon John, their daughter Flora Jane (later Rawden) and their youngest, Thomas James (Tommy) Sanderson. A larger house which still stands on this property replaced this house in 1921.
