History
Tokio Yamamoto was born May 29, 1923 in Cumberland, BC. to parents Teizo and Matsue (Matsunga) Yamamoto. Tokio was one of nine children born to parents Teizo and Matsue Yamamoto. Tokio and his family were forced into internment during the Second World War. Following the war, the family repatriated to Japan. After returning to Japan, Tokio worked in the Aomori-Ken Region. While living in Japan, Tokio married Yoshino Tamura and the couple had two daughters, Reiko Yamamoto Moizumi and Akemi Yamamoto Jordan. At a young age Yoshino (nee Tamura) Yamamoto learned to make patterns and sew by attending classes at a tailoring school in Aomoir-ken, Japan. In 1952, her husband Tokio Yamamoto bought a sewing machine as a gift. In 1958, Tokio, Yoshino and their two daughters, Reiko and Akemi travelled to Vancouver, British Columbia on the Hikawa-Maru passenger ship. Among Yoshino's possessions was her sewing machine, which was re-assembled when the family moved into their new home in East Vancouver. Yoshino spent many hours sewing and altering clothes for her family, and making cushions, curtains and quilts with her trusty sewing machine. Tokio Yamamoto died in 2012 and Yoshino Yamamoto died in 2016.

History
Valley Bakery was started in Burnaby in 1957 by Gerardus "George" Jacobus Kuyer. George started as an apprentice baker in Holland at age 13 and came from the Netherlands to Canada in 1954. He originally opened Valley Bakery at 4059 Hastings Street, near Gilmore Avenue. The bakery later moved to four other premises over the years, before opening at the present location at 4058 East Hastings Street. Valley Bakery brought European baking to the Burnaby area. Son Jack Kuyer bought the bakery from his father in 1979. Jack was an early adopter of using computers to track inventory in the bakery. As a strong community advocate, Jack was one of a few business owners that worked to halt a Department of Highways plan to rid Hastings Street of all street level parking. He was also integral in launching Hats Off Day, a festival designed for local merchants to show their appreciation for their customers. As of 2019, Hats Off Day is Burnaby's largest street festival. In 2015, the Burnaby Board of Trade inducted Valley Bakery into the Burnaby Business Excellence Awards Hall of Fame. The bakery has been in business for over 60 years as of 2019.

Fonds consists of records of the Valleyview Community Council including minutes of meetings, constitution, reports, adminstrative records, general correspondence and newsletters.
History
The Valley View Community Council formed as a society on February 10, 1948. The society was made up of two appointed delegates from the Central Burnaby Ratepayers & Citizen’s Association; the Burnaby Lake Men’s Community Service Club and the Women’s Community Club with the intention to build a community centre in central Burnaby. Founding members included: Orpha Laurie Nicol; Vernon Andrew Fines; Henry Hill; Herbert Frederick Salisbury; Alice Euphemia Peel and Blythe Alfred Eagles. The objects of the society: a) To coordinate the activities of public spirited organizations in the erection, equipping, maintenance, operation and administration of a community centre to be erected on Grandview Highway at Ledger Street. b)To provide opportunities in such centre and elsewhere in the community for wholesome recreation, education, and civic and other leisure-time activities of the community. c)To encourage cooperation in considered community undertakings. A site for the community centre was leased to the Valley View Community Council by the Corporation of the District of Burnaby on a portion of Lot 9 in District Lot 79 on Douglas Road and Ledger Street (offices located at 4443 East Grandview-Douglas Hwy; Community Centre located at 4050 Grandview-Douglas Hwy). The community centre served as a meeting place for various community groups and community events, including the Valley View Kindergarten which used it as a home between 1948 and 1967. On January 29, 1968, the Valley View Community Council was dissolved after their lease on the land expired with the Corporation of the District of Burnaby in the 1967. In the fall of 1968, the community centre building was taken over by the Fraternal Order of the Eagles who relocated the building to 1791 Douglas Road. The remaining funds of the Valley View Community Council society were donated to the Burnaby General Hospital for an incubator in the intensive care unit.
