Description: Mini dress, c.1960s. Purple rayon/acetate velvet with cream acrylic moire taffeta bottom and cuffs, and acetate organza ruffles. Velvet bow at neckline and velvet buttons down front. Zipper in back. The dress has a round neckline with two layers of white organza ruffles. Down the centre front, there is a three inch panel of cream acrylic moire taffeta, edged on either side with two layers of organza ruffles. Near its top is a bow of the same purple velvet as the dress, and on centre front there are nine small decorative buttons in the same velvet. The long set in sleeves are velvet with cuffs of cream taffeta that are separated from the sleeve by two rows of organza ruffles. There is also a large band of cream taffeta at the end of the dress, about eight inches wide. The dress has little shaping, and no waistline. It flares out in a slight A line shape. There is also a bust dart on either side, and a dart on the back of each shoulder. The back is plain except for the metal zipper at centre back that extends from the neckline to the hips. There is no lining except for a linen backing for the centre front panel, as well as a purple facing for the neckline. The seams are either clean finished, or left unfinished.

Description: Hamilton Beach stand-up electric metal mixer, white with black handle, black cord and black bowl. Labelled "Hamilton Beach/Model WM 507009", features "Mixguide" and "Bowl Control". Bottom latest patent is 2002333. Mixer unit is 37 cm. h x 34 cm. l x 18 cm. w. Parts include: a) Mixer b) Large white pyrex bowl with 4 rings around edge, labelled "PYREX/R/Hamilton Beach/Racine, Wisconsin/3/Made in U.S.A", 22 cm. in diameter. c) small white pyrex bowl with 4 rings around edge, pouring spout on edge, labelled "PYREX/R/Hamilton Beach/Racine, Wisconsin/13/Made in U.S.A", 16.3 cm. in diameter. d) beater attachment for mixer, stainless steel egg-beater.

Object History: Would have been used by Lillian Yanko and her daughters. Annie D. Basiuk (later Yanko) was born on February 25, 1902 in Sheho, Saskatchewan (formerly Sheho, North West Territories). Daniel "Dan" Yanko was born in Kobilnicha, Ukraine in 1887 and immigrated to Canada in May or June of 1905. Daniel Yanko married Annie D. Basiuk and had thirteen children together. Their son, John Ivan Yanko was born on the family farm, near Kelliher, Saskatchewan, on June 27, 1923. In grade six, John was pulled out of school to help support the family. Eugenia “Jenny” Haresomovych (later Carman) was born August 8, 1904 in Galecia, Austria. She came to Canada in 1928, when her parents sent her to live with the Austrian consular in Halifax. A year later, she was in The Pas with Albert Edward Carman, with whom she would have three children. Their daughter, Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman was born in The Pas, Manitoba March 24, 1929. Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) Carman later re-married Joseph Nagy who was born in Hungary in October 3, 1900. Jenny, Joseph and the children moved to Nelson, British Columbia, where Joseph worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the age of twenty, John Yanko met his future wife Lillian Doris Carman while visiting relatives in Burnaby. Lillian received a rail pass because of her dad’s employment with the CPR and at fourteen had gone to visit her Godmother in Burnaby. John Ivan Yanko and Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman were married October 16, 1948 in Nelson, British Columbia and moved into the basement of John’s sister’s house on Union Street. Lillian began working at the downtown Woodward’s store as a cashier in 1948. In 1950, the young couple bought property at 7385 (later renumbered 7391) Broadway in Burnaby and began constructing a house as they could afford it. Knowing she’d be let go if she was pregnant, when Lillian was expecting her first child, Jenny sewed her several versions of the same outfit; they all used the same material, but each was a little bit larger than the last to accommodate her expanding girth. Rhonda, born in 1953 and Charmaine, born in 1955, grew up in the Broadway home. They attended school at Sperling Elementary, and later at Burnaby North high school. Lillian left her job to be a stay-at-home mom when Rhonda was born, but that changed in 1963 when John and Charmaine were in a car accident that left John temporarily unable to work. Joseph Nagy died April 20, 1962; his wife Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) (Carman) Nagy passed away August 14, 1985. Daniel "Dan" Yanko died in 1976; his wife Annie D. (Basiuk) Yanko died in 1997. John Yanko later returned to work, establishing his own tile setting business and working until age eighty-two. John and Lillian lived out the rest of their married lives on the Broadway property. John Ivan Yanko passed away in 2010; his wife Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman (Carman) Yanko passed away in 2011.

Description: Motorcycle, made by the Canadian Cycle and Motor Co. (CCM). It was manufactured ca 1911, and it is identified as a Model 10. The serial number on engine is, M.T. 11098. The motorcycle has a bicycle style tubular, metal frame. The engine and fuel tank are mounted inside the frame. A leather link chain runs from the engine pulley to a large drive pulley on the rear wheel. The motorcycle is equipped with bicycle style pedals as well as the engine.

Object History: Original owner's name found on bicycle by CCI staff in Ottawa. Last licenced 1923. That owner died in a car accident in 1924.

Description: Horn spoon with fine carving on the narrow handle. Material is very dark.

Object History: Along the Northwest Coast, in general, undecorated spoons of wood and horn were used in everyday life, while more elaborately carved versions were used on special occasions. Horn spoons were often passed down in families as heirlooms, such spoons are generally darker in colour than those of recent manufacture. The bowls of these spoons are too large to place in the mouth, so food is sipped from the sides or the end.; The bowl of the mountain goat horn spoon is made from the larger part of the horn, at the base. The handle is made from the tip. It is straightened out by steaming in a wooden mould and then scored out inside as part of the shaping process

Description: Mourning bodice, c.1884-1889. Black satin silk. High neck with collar, buttons down front, long sleeves with cuffs, basque bodice especially flared in the back. The bodice is entirely black, and unadorned except for the buttons and cuffs. The centre front closure has sixteen black jet buttons with a pattern cut into each. At the ends of the somewhat fitted sleeves there are four inch turned back cuffs. At the high neck, there is a mandarin collar. Inside, the bodice is lined with brown cotton. Five bones are evenly spaced along the six back panels and two front panels, with two darts each. The back section of the bodice below the waistline is flared out to fit over a bustle.

Object History: From the estate of Norah Byrne, daughter of Peter Byrne and Priscilla Amelia Rowling Rowling. She later married William Descoteau. Norah Byrne was born in 1896 and based on the era of the dress, it's possible that the dress originally belonged to her mother, Priscilla Amelia Rowling Byrne.
