Lieutenant Richard Hill was of the 45th Regiment of Foot, seeing action at the Battles of Ciudad Rodrigo (January 1812), Badajoz (March-April 1812), Salamanca (July 1812), the Nive (December 1813), Orthez (February 1814), and Toulouse (April 1814).
