Edwin Bateman is wearing his hair short and parted down the middle, with sideburns and a moustache. His dark coat is buttoned high with one button and his tie is a band that fits only under the collar and does not hang down below it. This photograph was probably taken shortly before E.W. Bateman left England for Manitoba. E.W. Bateman built the house "Elworth" at the Burnaby Village Museum. Printed on the bottom front of the photograph: "B.R. Leech. Photo. / Macclesfield." Printed on the back of the photograph: "B.R. Leech / 30, Roe Street. Macclesfield." Annotations on the back of the photograph read, "EW Bateman / About 1881" and "Age 22."

From email from Murray Barkhouse Thursday March 24, 2016: I was fascinated to see your three photographs of Louisa Killam Richardson who was my grandfather's sister. My grandfather was a medical doctor in Woodville Nova Scotia. I had never seen these photographs before. Louisa was born in Woodville Nova Scotia and then married and lived in Greenville New Hapmpshire. Her husband injured his hand working in a furniture factory there and she earned much needed income from sewing. They returned to Kentville Nova Scotia and are listed in the census of 1922. Her husband at some point worked in real estate, whereupon they moved from Nova Scotia to Burnaby, BC. They had no children,. Murray Barkhouse email: murrayroybarkhouse@gmail.com 902-543-5767

The photograph is printed on a postcard paper. The postcard is copyrighted by the Chicago Ferrotype Company, 1911. The postcard is enclosed in a green folder with a lion face embossing on the cover.
Scope and Content
Photographic postcard of 7 unidentified women in white dresses of the turn of the century period. They are all wearing hats, some lavishly decorated with feathers and silk flowers.
