Heritage Value
Constructed in 1891 between Edmonds and Highland Park on the Central Park Interurban Line, the steam plant provided power to run the line, then operated by Westminster and Vancouver Tramway Company. The steam powerhouse was replaced in 1905 by a B.C. Electric substation which was put into operation to receive and distribute power from the B.C.E.R. Buntzen Lake power dam. Prior to Burnaby having its own Municipal Hall, Council meetings were often held at the boarding house adjacent to the powerhouse and in 1892, Burnaby’s first Council meeting was held at the boarding house in 1892.

Photograph of the exterior of a store on the ground floor of a two-storey building, with a sign painted on the front face of the second floor. It reads, "A. MacKenzie & Co / Jubilee Store." There are two men in suits standing out in front of the display windows that show stacks of boxes and cans. The lot around the building looks vacant, but fenced. There is a wagon drawn by a team of two horses parked or travelling towards the store on the right side of the photograph. The store was owned by Alexander MacKenzie, (1870-1949) who arrived in Vancouver in 1907. There is a discrepancy in the date of the photograph; the accession register dates the photograph 1909 while the donation form signed by the donor dates all the photographs in the accession as 1907 or 1908. Annotations on the bottom front of the card mount read: "Ralph Libby" and "Vancouver B.C." This store later became the Matheson and Sons Market.

Photograph of a group of people gathered along the side of a street in front of the Municipal Hall on Edmonds, with a large sign that reads, "EARL HAIG WELCOME TO BURNABY". The crowd is mostly men in suits, women in dresses and hats, and two girls. There are flags and streamers flying in the background. According to the accession register, they are the Welcome Committee for the visit of Earl Haig to Burnaby Municipal Hall. Only three people in the photograph have been tentatively identified: In the centre of the picture, directly behind the little girl it appears to be L. Claude Hill and to the right of him, his wife Annie. The third man to the left of Claude Hill appears to be Thomas Sanderson. The rest are unknown.

Scope and Content
Photograph of the eighteen girls of the first Burnaby Girl Guide Company. The girl guide flag with a clover leaf symbol in the centre, and writing, "1st Burnaby Company" at the top, is hanging on a staff behind the girls. An earlier catalogue record from 1976 notes that the brick building behind the girls would almost certainly be the Burnaby Municipal Hall built in 1911, from having examined the detail of the brickwork, the stonework of the foundations and the joinery around the windows of the basement. One of the girls is holding a pennant with the Union Jack at one end and the word "Welcome" in the fly. The 1976 record surmises that this might be for the visit of the Prince Wales in 1919. The girls' uniforms consist mostly of white middies, long dark skirts and Australian-style Stetsons. Some girls are wearing dark dresses with a belt at the waist and a knotted scarf at the neck. The skirts are mid-calf. The Girl Guides first formed in Burnaby in 1914, and worked on making and sending gifts to the soldiers in their war efforts. An annotation on the back of the photograph reads, "300 out."
