Three boxes containing Burnaby Fire Department records, compiled by Doug Penn during the process of writing "Follow That Fire." The records include files containing news clippings (both original and copied), letters written by members of the Fire Department (both current and retired), file folders housing layout ideas for each chapter of the book, audio tape recordings of interviews (with John Pontifex, Fred Blake, Bill Copeland, Frank Collum, Louis Avache, and Larry Roy), as well as photographs and negatives. The photographs and negatives range in size and format, and include both copies and originals. According to records, the photographs all came from the Fire Department's photograph collection which had been compiled and maintained by Chief Al Nixon. The photograph collection compiled by Al Nixon is in box 2 and 3 and includes black and white and colour, along with copied prints and negatives. Also in box three is a 1985 "Burnaby Fire Department Rules and Regulations" binder.
History/Biography
These files were compiled by Deputy Fire Chief of Operations, Doug Penn for the purpose of producing a book detailing the history of the Burnaby Fire Department. He was aided in his research by Jim Wolf (Heritage Planning Assistant) and Lynda Orr (Museum Programmer Assistant). For the purposes of this research, Doug Penn also made extensive use of the Fire Department's photograph collection, which was compiled by Chief Al Nixon.
