Scope and Content: Item consists of a scrapbook with a handpainted wood cover titled "50th Anniversary / G.G.C". The scrapbook documents events and ceremonies of the 4th Guide Company with the first half of the scrapbook containing photographs and documents regarding the 50th Anniversary of Girl Guides which was celebrated at St. Nicholas Church in 1960 while the second half documents earlier events from 1926, as well as other events in the 1960s such as; "Year of the Golden Jubilee", a parade in North Burnaby as well as Thinking Day 1976-1978, banquets, a disco contest, camping on Hollyburn mountain and a visit to Victoria in 1979. On November 3rd, 1926 the company was registered as the 5th Burnaby Guide company, in 1951 the number was changed to the 4th Vancouver Guide Company and in 1956 the number was changed to the 4th Burnaby Company.

Administrative History: Albert (Bert) Michael Leonard Parker was born in 1915 to parents William Michael Norton Parker and Sarah Maria Love. His parents William and Sarah married in 1913. Albert was the eldest of the three Parker children including his brother William Charles (Bill) and sister Elsie Roberta. Following their marriage, his parents built and lived in a small house located at 1319 Newcombe Street in Burnaby. The family lived there until 1925 when they moved the whole family into the Love family farmhouse at 1390 Cumberland Road to live with Sarah's father Jesse Love. Jesse Love died in 1928 after which Albert's parents purchased the Love family farmhouse and property. Albert's father, William Michael, died in 1961 and his mother continued to live in the Love family farmhouse until 1966 when she sold it to her daughter Elsie and husband John Hughes. Albert taught commerce for over 30 years in Vancouver schools. Albert Parker passed away after his 96th birthday on June 30, 2011 and was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Peggy).

Material Details: An annotation on the back of the photo reads: "Alf with Co-op Car 1931 Model T Ford / This car ran the roads of the lower mainland for two years without a liscence. [sic] Collecting food for hungry Burnaby families. (A Bingham, March 11 1971)."

Scope and Content: Photograph of Alfred "Alf" Bingham standing beside 1931 Model T Ford that was used by the C.G. Co-operative Association in Burnaby. The license plate reads: "101 547 31 / British Columbia." According to an accompanying note prepared by Burnaby Village Museum, both Mr. and Mrs. Bingham were active in the self-help group called "The Army of Common Good" during the Depression, and did a lot of work at one of the depots that was located at 4139 Parker Street. They continued to be active with the C.G. Co-operative Association which was formed when the "Army" dissolved in 1932. Mr. Bingham was employed in mill work.

Administrative History: Gerald Frank Sanders (1916-2017) was born August 28, 1916 in Hackney, London. He emigrated to Canada in 1918 and the family settled in Burnaby on Spruce Street. As the family grew, they built the house that still stands (as of 2018) on the corner of Spruce and Carlton Avenue at 4096 Spruce Street then eventually the smaller house between the two. He attended Inman Elementary, then VanTech. He eventually joined the RAF during WWII as an airplane mechanic in England. He sent his pay home and his mother bought the two lots on Pine Street with some of the money. Gerald married Alice Viola Sparman (1925-1996) on March 8, 1948. Alice was born in Lloydminster Sasks, grew up near Cranbrook BC and spent her teenage years in Victoria BC. She trained to be a nurse at St.Paul's Hospital in Vancouver graduating in ca. 1945-1946. Alice worked at the Burnaby General Hospital since it was built in 1952. They had six children: Dennis, Kerry, Kris, David, Ruth, and Marie. Gerald built the house at 4058 Pine Street with the help of family and friends in 1949. He worked as a carpenter, working on projects like the dentistry building at UBC, highway overpasses, the Vancouver Court House, Jack Poole's house in the British Properties, etc. "He lived on one square block for 98 years but his life was anything but small". Administrative History: Henry Stanley Irwin (1890-1966) started work at Barnet mill in 1924. Henry and his wife Elsie May Irwin (Taylor) Irwin (1894-1985) first lived with thier two daughters, Eleanor (Nelson) (1924-2005) and Louise (1927-) in a worker's cabin before moving to the Barnet Mill's managers' residence. The household included Elsie's mother, Elizabeth (Shephard) Taylor (1868-1950). The family resided at Barnet until they moved to Vancouver in September 1939. Louise and her older sister Eleanor attended Barnet School like other children in the Barnet area. After the mill closed in 1931, Henry was unemployed for two years, during this time, he hired a horse and driver and cut logs from the slopes of Burnaby Mountain to support his family.

Administrative History: The Barnet Lumber Company also known as the Barnet mill was in operation between 1925 and 1932. The mill was located on Burrard Inlet in the neighbourhood of Barnet and was one of the most successful local employers in Burnaby until the 1930s when the Great Depression resulted in a strike at the mill. The City of Burnaby eventually assumed control of the site including all of the homes when the company failed to pay it's taxes. The city then dismantled the mill and sold the property in two parts - the eastern section would become the Kapoor Sawmills Limited and the western portion, the McColl-Frontenac Oil Company.
