In his letter Colin thanks May for her air mail letter and box of chocolates and reflects on a good time that he had attending a party with his friend Frosty and wife and four other couples. Colin tells of how he found a note in a roll of blankets from a girl who offered to be a pen pal, how he shared the note with half of his troop and how he was elected to respond to her. He also tells of how a cable about him returning was home was incorrect, how he received three hundred cigarettes from the Teen Age Veterans (that his cousin Warren Bateman belongs to) and how he saw the movie "Girl Crazy".

- Item consists of a handwritten letter from Sergeant Colin Rhodes Fox of the Royal Canadian Artillery Service to Marianne "May" Bateman while serving overseas during World War II. Colin Fox served in the 13th Canadian Field Regiment, 44th Canadian Field Battery. In his letter, Colin tells how he is out of hospital and in a covalescent depot; his plans to visit his girlfriend in Bournemouth on his upcoming leave; his girlfriend's recent visit; a letter and family photo that he received from Catherine M. Bateman; how he's going to try and get some photographs taken while he's on leave and how he expects the war to be over soon.

- Item consists of a letter reading as a character reference for William Holmes, Toronto, December 17, 1858. The letter refers to William's character as a gentleman in good standing of Holmesville in the County of Huron where he has been actively employed in Commercial pursuits in Upper Canada and his intention to emigrate to British Columbia. The letter is signed and certified on the verso by various officials including; "G.E. Cartier", Attourney General of Lower Canada; John A. Macdonald, Attourney General of Upper Canada; Sidney Smith, Post Master General; George Sherwood, Receiver General; John Rose, Soliciter General; Charles Alleyn, Provincial Secretary; P.M. VanKaughnet [sic], Commissioner of Crown Lands and A.T. Galt, Inspector General of Canada. The letter includes a wax Common Seal of the City of Toronto and is certified the 6th day of January 1859. Text on first page of letter reads: "The Bearer William Holmes Esq / late of Holmesville in the County of Huron has for some years been actively employed in Com- / mmercial pursuits in Upper / Canada, but now intends to emigrate to British Columbia / We have great pleasure in / certifying that Mr. Holmes is / a Gentleman of good standing / for character and capacity / and that his connectiions (are) [sic] / highly respectable; his brother / John Holmes Esq at present / holding the dignified and responsible / office of Warden (Equivalent to / Mayor) of the Municipal Council". letter continues on verso to read: "of the United Counties of Huron / and Bruce, which Counties he / also respresents in Parliament..." signatures of officials beneath. Written vertically down the left hand side of the verso is the following text "I certify that the Signature attached to / this document are the bona- / fide Signature of the parties / named & that they hold the / respective offices (within) mentioned / within. In testimony whereof I have / herunto set my hand and caused / the Common Seal of the City of Toronto / to be herunto affixed this 6th day of / January 1859" with signatures below "D.V. Mead / Mayor / A.M. Jones [sic] / Chamberlain".

- National Finance - Form -- [1927]. Retail Financing Agreement from National Finance, between Stellar Motors Limisted and S.W. Sievenpiper. Sievenpiper purchased a new Velie Sedan Automobile for $1750.20. The agreement outlines the installment schedule for payment. The form measures 21.5cm x 34cm.

- Inspection Card - Immigration form -- [1909]. Inspection card for T. McNair when he immigrated to Canada from England in 1909. He sailed on the S.S. Corsican from Liverpool England. The inspection card was started on January 8, 1909. There are two stamps on the form, one for passing the Medical Inspection. The other stamp is from the Dominion Immigration Agency in St. John, New Brunswick stating that McNair passed inspection on January 17th, 1909. The back of the card advises that the card be kept for three years in case it is wanted by the Government. The phrase was translated in to eleven other languages.
- Object History
- Receipt belonging to Thomas Seaborn McNair, who was born on May 15 1888 to Francis McNair and Elizabeth Taylor at sea off New Zealand. He immigrated to Canada in 1909. He worked as an accountant and estate agent. He married Mary Vida McMillan in 1917. Thomas ran Edwards, McNair and Russell in Vancouver (presumably an accounting firm). Thomas McNair died in 1982.

The first side of the contract provides space for information about the venue, date, furnishing, ticket selling, etc. The reverse side summarizes the information and has a spot for the Company Signature and the House Signature. The contract measures 17.5cm x 21.5cm.
