Photograph of the house built about 1894 that Louis Claud Hill called "Brookfield." Mr. Hill was married that year to Annie Sara Kendrick, and they took up residence in the house until 1906 when they sold the property and built a new home in the vicinity of Buckingham and Sperling. Brookfield was still on the property when the Burnaby Village Museum was planned in 1971 as Heritage Village, but it was torn down to make room for other buildings on the site. An acquisition record notes that this house stood immediately behind the Elworth House, and Colonel Peers' (the donor) mother was born in this house in 1898. Annotations on the back of the photo read, "1896 'Brookfield'" and "The residence of Mr.+Mrs. LC Hill, the first residence on the site of Heritage Court. It stood immediately behind what is now called the Manor House. Built about 1894."

Scope and Content
Photograph of a class sitting at their desks. The desks are attached to the backs of the chairs. The name of the class and school is unknown. An earlier catalogue record conjectures it is probably a Burnaby school, possibly Gilmore Avenue School. The inscription in pencil of the date 1920 is of unknown origin, but the clothing styles of the students indicate this date is probably close to being correct. There are 10 girls and 22 boys in the class, unsegregated in seating arrangement. The boys are wearing dark turtle neck sweaters, some with a dark sports jacket over the sweater. The boys' hair is moppish, some parted, most not. The girls are wearing dresses (little detail visible) and long hair, some with a ribbon on top and pulled back. A black board on the right side of the students has a large map of South America drawn on it. A Red Cross Nurse's picture is above this board. The alphabet is written in large block capitals in chalk across the top of the rear blackboard. Queen Mary's picture is above this board. A female teacher is standing beneath Queen Mary. The dangling lights have conical shades. Inscribed on the negative, lower left of the print: "267." Annotations in pencil read, "1920" (front of photo, upper right) and "Mr. Tom Browning" (back of photo).

Photograph of a house in a clearing just on the outskirts of densely wooded area. There is a wooden fence around the property, and in front of the house is a dirt road. There are small piles of logs along the road side. An earlier catalogue record identifies this house as the Haszard house that was located across the street from the property of the Sprott Farm. The photograph was taken from Douglas Road (later renamed in part Canada Way). It is also noted that the Sprott family lived in the Haszard house while their home, named "Dovecote" was being completed.

The car license plate reads, "BC/ 2720/ 1913." Following the car is a horse pulling a wagon. Further north, a small street car can be seen, probably moving southward. According to the 1988 catalogue record, the two houses on the left are separated by Hubert Avenue. The larger house on the left is the home of of Mr. and Mrs. John McNiven, now demolished. The smaller house in the distance, being constructed, is the Britton family home. On the right in the distance, the roof and twin chimneys of the 1890s Stride home can be seen, which later became the Sylvan Court Apartment Building.

Photograph of a paved street lined on both sides with curbs and electric poles. There appears to be a car in the distance, as well as an idustrial building on the right-hand side of the road. An earlier catalogue record from 1988 conjectures that the street is Kingsway, probably in Burnaby, between Sperling Avenue and Royal Oak, looking South, and that the building is possibly the Macadam making plant for the company which paved Kingsway.

She started the choir and conducted it until her retirement in 1986. The costume, as seen in several photographs and also in the Burnaby Vilalge Museum collection, was made by members of the choir who made similar 1890's period costumes for themselves. The choir sang in seniors centres and at special events at Century Park (now known as the Burnaby Village Museum). They were also invited to sing at Government House in Victoria.
