- The Windsor Neighbourhood comprises a number of different districts with different characteristics. To the north, stretching to the border of the Deer Lake Park, is the primarily residential area that was developed after the building boom of the 1950s and now consists of a mix of single-family and multi-family housing. To the south, from Kingsway to the Skytrain line, an industrial area was maintained along with a significant commercial corridor along Kingsway. In recent years, the growth and development of this area has been guided by the Royal Oak Community Plan adopted by Council in 1999.

Edward Fountain was the first City of Burnaby License Inspector in 1949, in 1952 he became the Personnel Director, when he retired in 1970 his position was Assistant Manager. Edward and Edith, who loved to dance, attended many social events, parties and balls due to Edward's positions within the City of Burnaby.

- Photograph of the Smith family home at 6186 Royal Oak Road. Although this photograph was taken in the 1960s, this was one of the first houses built on Royal Oak, in 1907. This was the home of James Smith and his wife, Agnes Smith (nee Taylor). They had four children: Grace Smith (later Grace Pletcher), Bob Smith, Warden Smith, and Ada Smith. It was a BC Mill Timber and Trading Co. prefabricated house originally built in BC and shipped to this site.
