- A green plastic cased tape measure with a black locking mechanism and belt clip. Four philips head screws hold the case together. The steel blade is yellow with black imperial only measurements. Markings on a green label on the front of the case: "Tuf-E-Nuf Tools/Richmond BC Canada, V6X 2R2/16' x 3/4" and barcode then made in Taiwan. Markings on the belt clip: "Made in Taiwan" Imbedded on the back of the case as a correction for internal measurements: "+3 in/76 mm"

- Hand tools used by John Yanko in his business as a tile setter. Annie D. Basiuk (later Yanko) was born on February 25, 1902 in Sheho, Saskatchewan (formerly Sheho, North West Territories). Daniel "Dan" Yanko was born in Kobilnicha, Ukraine in 1887 and immigrated to Canada in May or June of 1905. Daniel Yanko married Annie D. Basiuk and had thirteen children together. Their son, John Ivan Yanko was born on the family farm, near Kelliher, Saskatchewan, on June 27, 1923. In grade six, John was pulled out of school to help support the family. Eugenia “Jenny” Haresomovych (later Carman) was born August 8, 1904 in Galecia, Austria. She came to Canada in 1928, when her parents sent her to live with the Austrian consular in Halifax. A year later, she was in The Pas with Albert Edward Carman, with whom she would have three children. Their daughter, Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman was born in The Pas, Manitoba March 24, 1929. Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) Carman later re-married Joseph Nagy who was born in Hungary in October 3, 1900. Jenny, Joseph and the children moved to Nelson, British Columbia, where Joseph worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the age of twenty, John Yanko met his future wife Lillian Doris Carman while visiting relatives in Burnaby. Lillian received a rail pass because of her dad’s employment with the CPR and at fourteen had gone to visit her Godmother in Burnaby. John Ivan Yanko and Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman were married October 16, 1948 in Nelson, British Columbia and moved into the basement of John’s sister’s house on Union Street. Lillian began working at the downtown Woodward’s store as a cashier in 1948. In 1950, the young couple bought property at 7385 (later renumbered 7391) Broadway in Burnaby and began constructing a house as they could afford it. Knowing she’d be let go if she was pregnant, when Lillian was expecting her first child, Jenny sewed her several versions of the same outfit; they all used the same material, but each was a little bit larger than the last to accommodate her expanding girth. Rhonda, born in 1953 and Charmaine, born in 1955, grew up in the Broadway home. They attended school at Sperling Elementary, and later at Burnaby North high school. Lillian left her job to be a stay-at-home mom when Rhonda was born, but that changed in 1963 when John and Charmaine were in a car accident that left John temporarily unable to work. Joseph Nagy died April 20, 1962; his wife Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) (Carman) Nagy passed away August 14, 1985. Daniel "Dan" Yanko died in 1976; his wife Annie D. (Basiuk) Yanko died in 1997. - A plastic orange cased tape measure with a black lock switch. The case is held together with four steel screws. A metal belt clip is provided. The yellow coloured steel blade has both metric and imperial measurements. Red and black lettering is present on the mesuring blade. Markings on a piece of black paper on the case: "1" x 25' TAPE MEASURE/RUBAN A MUSURER/FLUORESCENT/HIGH VISIBILITY CASE-BOITIER TRES VOYANT"/METRIC/SAE/METRIQUE, ITEM NO. 7024". In black felt pen above the label is printed "YANKO" and below is printed "JOHN". On the lock switch: "FREE" and "STOP" On the belt clip: "TAIWAN". - Object History
- Postal scale used by Harriet Woodward at the Burnaby Lake Post Office. The Burnaby Lake Post Office was run out of the Woodward cottage, owned by Harriet and Maude Woodward. The cottage was a prefabricated cottage erected in 1904. Harriet also began a small private school in the cottage, the first in Burnaby Lake. The cottage was enlarged with several additions until 1912 when the Woodwards built a new house.

- 12 inch, wooden ruler made by the Acme Co. of Canada. Marked in inches on one side and centimeters on the opposite side. Written on the centimeter side with black felt marker is, "Baitz 1 800 I Escape"; Both ends and top edge of the ruler have been stained with ink. There are small gouges at one end.

- The Farrand Rapid Rule - Advertisement -- [192-]. Advertisement for the Farrand Rapid Rule from the Hiram A. Farrand Inc. in Berlin. The ruler being advertised is made from steel and is said to bend easily and measure curves. Along both sides of the page are four illustrations of the different uses of the ruler. The advert provides a six inch ruler as an example of its flexibility. The sample ruler was made in the USA and patented in Canada in 1928. The advertisement measures 28cm x 25.5cm.

- Object History
- The scale was used by the Hill family. The family farm stood on Douglas Road at Deer Lake - where Burnaby Village Museum is today. The homestead was built in 1892, and as enlarged in 1905. The family grew strawberries on the farm. Bernard Hill worked as a surveyor for the municipality of Burnaby. He and his brother Claude were Alderman for the municipality of Burnaby.

- Balance-beam scale with four weights. Scale has a black, metal body, with a rounded, bronze-coloured removable pan on the left side and a black, circular scale plate on the right side. Gold-coloured, rectangular ruler is attached to the front, with incised text, and a black weight attached to the centre. Four, ciruclar, black, metal weights accompany the item. Scale base and weights are worn.

- Description
- Promitional tape measurer with a silver top plates and a gold body engraved on both sides. One side dark blue with ariel drawing of building and "Dairyland/ BURNABY PLANT/ 1964" engraved. Reverse is oval image of 4 cows in a field with mountains, sky, and a barn painted on a gold body with "FRASER VALLEY/ MILK PRODUCERS/ ASSOCIATION" in red. Top has a retractable silver steel tape with measurements in inches on one side. "Japan" engraved on base.
- Object History
- This object belonged to a sales representative for Dairyland, who lived in Chilliwack. He retired in 1978 after 40 years with the company. The Burnaby Dairyland plant was constructed in 1964 on Lougheed Highway near Sperling Avenue.
