Scope and Content
Photograph of fifteen men lined up on and against a felled tree with the inscription "12 ft 50 in Dia." Behind them two men are operating a steam donkey, and a man and a dog are standing on a giant tree stump. An accompanying note prepared by Burnaby Village Museum reads: "This stationary steam engine, or 'steam donkey,' and crew of loggers probably worked for Gilley Brothers who logged extensively in Burnaby. Steam engines were placed in strategic place [sic] to pull heavy logs through the forests. Large teams of oxen and horses were originally used for this work."
