Bruce recalls that he didn’t attend Gilmore Avenue School, but his mother, Sheila McRae, worked there as an assistant. He describes her work and her enjoyment of it. Bruce also notes that the school had an air raid siren mounted on its roof which sounded terrifying to him when it was tested periodically during the 1950s Cold War era.
