The photograph was taken looking east along the lane. In 1965-66 the lane was put through from Douglas Road to Royal Oak and the trees and undergrowth were removed.

The workmen are wearing asbestos aluminum suits to withstand the intense heat reflected from the heated plate (the plate was heated in a furnace before being fed into the pyramid roll).
