- Bodice and skirt, c.1900. Brown cotton, black lace trim. High collar, low curved yoke, pouter pigeon front. Skirt has two bands and lace at the bottom, flounced in back. The high stand collar is covered in black lace, which extends in a wide curved yoke on the bodice. Beneath that there is a flounced band that splits at centre front and back, with a lace trimmed bow at centre front. The main bodice section has gathering at the centre front beneath the yoke and along the bottom, creating a puffed pouter pigeon front as the bottom front dips down as well. The back lies flat with pin tucks that fan out from the centre bottom. The sleeves have pin tucks coming from the shoulder on the outside edge, that end at the forearms. They are gathered to the cuffs as bishop sleeves. The lace trimmed cuffs have placket openings, and close with a hook and eye. The skirt has five gores extending from a small waistband, with two darts for shaping. At calf level, there is a band of black lace trim over two tiers of the skirt fabric, the bottom of which extends to the hem. They are flounced at the centre back. Under the bottom of the hem there is a band of black braided cord with a frayed bottom that protects and adds shape to the hem. Inside, the skirt is lined with black cotton. It closes with hooks and eyes at the centre back. The bodice is lined with brown cotton, and has nine bones. The lining closes separately with hooks and eyes at the centre front, and the main fabric of the bodice closes with hooks and eyes at the left seam and shoulder, and centre back of the collar.

- Dress, c. 1910. Black and mint green damask, black satin silk trim. Bodice, skirt, cumberbund. Square neck with studs, short sleeves, slight pouter pigeon, floor length skirt. The bodice has a large square neckline that is trimmed in front and back with a band of black satin. On the front, there are also bronze coloured studs arranged in triangle shapes. The sleeves are pleated at the top of the armscye. They have a self fabric band applique just above a cuff of black satin trim. The bodice front is gathered at the neckline and waist, and it is also longer to create a small pouter pigeon front. The cumberbund has five bones covered in ruching, at centre back, both sides, and each centre front end. It closes with three hooks and eyes at centre front, which is longer than the others and tilted forward slightly. The skirt has a jean waistband with seven gores. It opens in the centre back and has hook and eye closures. It is not really flared, but the waistband has been taken in at two spots at the right side to make the waist smaller. The hem is trimmed with a self fabric band.

- Tea dress, c.1908-1910. Cream machine valenciennes lace with diamond floral pattern. Half length kimono sleeves, round neck; long skirt. Slight pouter pigeon front. The neckline is high and round, edged with some lace. The bodice slopes inwards towards the waist, where it is gathered slightly. There is a seam that goes from under each arm to the waist to set the sleeves behind the slight pouter pigeon front. They have a kimono cut at the top. The bodice is lined with cotton lawn, which has two pleats on the front where it attaches to the waistband. There is no band at the waist, but its seam is bound by the same lawn lining fabric. The skirt is attached to the waistband in four gores that flare out somewhat. The closure runs from the neckline to just below the hips, at centre back. Hooks and eyes are used.

- Wedding dress, c.1900-1906. Cream lace net lined with white china silk. High collar, pouter pigeon front, puffed sleeves. Comes with a long sash and matching skirt. The collar is made of several bands of lace. The bodice is also lace, with embroidery. On the front there is a pin tucked yoke, and bordering this on the front and back are circles of lace with line embroidery inside. Below this there are more pin tucks and bands of lace. The front puffs out creating a pouter pigeon bodice, and there is a gathered flounce below the waistline. It closes with hooks and eyes at centre back. The sash, a long yellowish-cream piece of silk fabric, would go overtop of the waist. The sleeves are gathered at the cap and again at the cuff. There are bands of lace at the lower forearm, and they end with lace flounce cuffs of the same embroidered circles seen on the bodice. The skirt has a lace top layer and a white china silk lining that is attached at the small waistband. There are tiny pin tucks in the lace layer at the waistband. Halfway down, there is a band of embroidered circles, the same as those on the bodice. They are separated by two bands of lace. There are two more of the same bands of lace near the hem. The net layer has three gores, and the lining has five. There are also two ruffles at the lining hem.

- Wedding dress, c.1907. Converted to day dress. Cream and white pouter pigeon bodice with lace and high collar. Full skirt and separate cumberbund. The shape of this dress is exemplary of the Edwardian pouter pigeon front, with a tiny waist to match. In museum records, there is a copy of the original wedding photo; on the back is written "shows dress before alteration to current state as day dress." The only readily noticeable differences are the absences of lace trim in the cuff and on the china silk bodice rosettes.
- Object History
- Made by Pattie Adelina Pearson, for her marriage to Charles James Mitchell in Gravesend, Kent, England on September 26, 1907. After, they travelled immediately to Canada, living in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta, her daughter and son being born in the latter province. Pattie moved to Vancouver in 1918, where with the exception of the period when she lived in Victoria, she lived until her death in October 1981 at the age of 101 years. She would have been 27 years old when she wore the dress.

- Bodice, c.1890s. Black silk taffeta with black lace and corded trim. Pouter pigeon front, round neckline, bishop sleeves that are tight on forearms, waistband. The top half of the bodice front and back are heavily decorated. Around the neckline, there are strips of fabric joined by faggoting stitches; beneath this there are rows of corded trim. On top of both of these, hangs a profusion of black floral embroidered lace trim. At the cording front and the bottom front and back, the taffeta is gathered. At the front there are pieces of gathered taffeta sewn in between the main fabric and the lining to create a puffed appearance. At the bottom of the bodice, which is rounded in the back and dips down to a small point in the front, there is a ruched waistband. It ends in a knot at the left front, where it attaches with a hook and thread eye. Each sleeve is gathered to the armscye, and the corded trim on the bodice extends over the sleeves at the upper arms. The sleeves also have a gathered frill along their outer edges. They are gathered below the elbow into a tight fitting section that extends to their ends. The cuffs are decorated with stitching lines and sections attached by faggoting stitches. The bodice is lined with another layer of black taffeta, with thirteen feather bones. The lining closes up the centre front with hooks and eyes, and the main fabric closes over that with hooks and thread eyes. The lining is visible from the breast line up to the neckline, and would have been filled in with a piece of neckwear.

- Bodice, c.1902-1903. Black net with silver thread, black velvet, and and black embroidery, white silk under layer. Three quarter length sleeves, high collar, pouter pigeon. The high standing collar has four stays to keep it upright. It has an under-layer of white silk, and an over-layer of embroidered net like the rest of the bodice. At the neckline and shoulders, the net is gathered and pleated, as well as at the waistband, so if will puff out. At the centre front of the bodice there is a floral motif in black thread, and that is surrounded by tendrils of silver metal thread embroidery, with loops filled in with black velvet. At the back of the bodice, there is silver and velvet embroidery at the top near the shoulders. Beneath, there is floral embroidery in black thread. The embroidered net on the sleeves is gathered at the top and sides of the armscye, and at the cuff. There are two ball buttons at the cuff covered in metallic tulle, and the cuff itself has two layers of gathered net ruffle; the outside layer is black and the inside is white. The bottom of the bodice has a round shape in the back, and curves downwards to the centre front. It has a heavy waistband made of eleven silver metal cords attached as a flat ribbon. There are two buttons on either side of the centre back closure, the same type as on the cuffs. Inside, the bodice is lined in white cotton. It has nine bones and a centre back closure of hooks and eyes, with a separate set for the lining and the outer fabric.
- Object History
- The donor donated the bodice and other items after the death of her mother in West Vancouver. The items had been stored in the donor's basement since she was young. The bodice belonged to her grandmother, who lived in Edmonton until about 1905, and was used by the donor to play dress-up.

- Wedding dress, c.1909-1910. White cotton crepe with hand embroidery. Short bodice with pin tucks, slight pouf, and three quarter sleeves. Pleated ankle length column skirt. The bodice has a small lace edged V neck, and three pin tucks on each shoulder. Two of the pin tucks angle inwards and continue to the waistline. Between the tucks the bodice is covered with hand worked floral and ribbon themed embroidery. It is gathered at the waistband, creating a slight puff reminiscent of the recently out of fashion pouter pigeon bodice. The back of the bodice has three vertical pin tucks that extend from the shoulder to the waistband on either side of the centre back button closure, with thread covered buttons. There is a slight gather between the pin tucks and side back seams, from the panel under each arm. The sleeves are three quarters in length. They have turned up cuffs topped with embroidery and edged with the same lace as seen on the collar. The skirt has a sailor front opening with six thread covered buttons on either side of a centre front panel. Just past hip level, there are two accordion pleats on either side of the panel. There is a gore on each side and one on the back that flare out slightly; each has the floral and ribbon embroidery. On the back gore, there is a pleat on either side at calf level. The hem is ankle length.

- From donor: "This was the wedding dress of my sister-in-law's mother, worn about 1905. They came from Maine. Made of cotton, hand embroidery, a typical "country-type" wedding gown of the period. It was given to me by my sister-in-law and I am only too glad to have it find such a welcoming spot in B.C.!"

- wedding dress, c.1902-1908. White china silk. Pouter pigeon bodice with half length sleeves and cumberbund. Skirt is shirred at waist and flares out at lower half. This Edwardian wedding dress is made almost entirely of china silk. Usually a lining fabric, the Edwardians often used it for special occasions such as weddings to achieve a floating, puffed up silhouette without any bulk at the waist. The bodice has three layers of ruffles at the high round neckline. The bodice front has two layers to hide its hook and eye closures. The back of the bodice has two panels four pin tucks for shaping. At the shoulders, there are rows of shirring that continue into the sleeve. The sleeves are gathered again into a cuff at their ends. The cumberbund is shirred at each end, as well as in the centre with three rows of shirring. There are three stays at the centre and one at each end; it closes with hooks and eyes which are covered by bows. The skirt has multiple rows of shirring at the waist. It has three gores, including one at the centre front that extends from the waistband without any shirring. There are two godets at the back seam and one at each of the side seams that begin at hip level and continue until about calf level. Then there is a new band of silk shirred onto the skirt, with three horizontal tucks at the bottom; the last tuck forms the hem. It is self lined under the bottom shirred section, with an un-gathered lining.
