Richard Hill served in the Peninsular War and his medal of service can be seen in this photograph. Lieutenant Richard Hill was of the 45th Regiment of Foot, seeing action at the Battles of Ciudad Rodrigo (January 1812), Badajoz (March-April 1812), Salamanca (July 1812), the Nive (December 1813), Orthez (February 1814), and Toulouse (April 1814).
