Description
The garland consist of several hundred small pieces of orange fabric in different patterns and shades. They are tied around the base, a thin white rope.
Object History
These items were collected as part of the Museum's response to the news of 215 unmarked children's graves found at the Kamloops Residential School in June 2021. These items came from engagement activities the public were invited to take part in for several weeks and consider the impact of the discovery in their own lives.
This garland was built by members of the public tying an orange piece of fabric to a string. These garlands lined the Cedar Grove in the Village.
There were a number of other elements to the commemorative display at the Museum. At the Church, there was a display of children's shoes and poetry. Visitors were invited to reflect and write a message to the children, the families or anyone connected to this tragic finding. Visitors were invited to write a message on an orange index card.

Heritage Value
The Arrow Neon Sign was built in 1961 by the Neonette Sign Company of New Westminster when this property was opened as the Tomahawk Drive-in Restaurant. The restaurant was later known as Lindy's Burger and in 1990, the business was renamed Lost in the 50's Drive-in. It stands 20-foot tall and is composed of a large double-sided hollow steel panel serpentine arrow mounted on a pole supporting a lexan sign panel measuring approximately 8 feet wide by 4 feet tall. The sign was designed with three illuminated features: a round lamp at the top of the pole, a double-sided rectangular fluorescent sign panel box, and two double-sided rows of orange neon arrows that follow the large serpentine arrow. The Arrow Neon Sign remains as a rare surviving example of neon sign art in the city and is the only historic neon sign in South Burnaby. The sign has gained prominence over the years as it has been associated with this small iconic drive-in which has also been utilized as a set for film production. Additionally, the drive-in has played a prominent role in the Edmonds community as a popular setting for recent "Show and Shine" participants to park their classic cars.

Object History
Item was part of a scrapbook created by Cecil Chue Kan Lee documenting the time he was employed as a Prodcue Buyer for Kelly Douglas and Company Limited and Western Commodities Limited in the 1970s and early 1980s. As a produce buyer for Kelly Douglas, Cecil Lee worked closely with local farmers along Marine Drive and in the Fraser Valley. The Burnaby company was one of the largest food distributors in Canada. In the mid-1970s, Lee was asked to oversee the import of Chinese mandarin oranges into Canada. Until that time, mandarin oranges had come from Japan and were sold in the winter, especially at Christmas. When the Japanese market could no longer keep up with demand, Kelly Douglas looked to China. The company relied on Lee’s cultural knowledge to build this very profitable part of their business.
