- The Court Room letters came from the 1965 Provincial Courthouse built adjacent to City Hall at 4949 Canada Way. This courtroom closed down in 2002.

- Varnished and beveled wooden cylinder, used to provide a place to bang a gavel. The top surfaces is dented and scratched with use. There is a small, golden coloured metal plaque nailed into the side of the gavel pad with 2 nails. It reads "Presented to The Corporation of The District of Burnaby / Operation Identification 15-5-78 / by Burnaby Kingsway Rotary Club

- Gavel pad used by Mayor William Copland (1987-1996). William “Bill” Copeland once joked that the reason he ran for mayor of Burnaby was because “there wasn’t a shadow of hope he would be successful” – and when the votes were tallied and he was declared victorious, Bill asked for a recount. Fortunately for the people of Burnaby, he was not serious and instead went on to become an overwhelmingly popular and much-respected leader of the community. Bill’s service to his community began early in life. Born in Vancouver on May 19, 1927, Bill was still a young man when World War Two began but that did not stop him from serving in the Merchant Marines and in the Royal Canadian Navy. After the war, Bill and his wife Ruth raised three children and in 1955 he embarked on a career with the Burnaby Fire Department. Bill went on to serve Burnaby as a firefighter until his retirement in 1987 as an Assistant Fire Chief. During this lengthy tenure, Bill held a leadership role in the Firefighters’ Union Local 323 and served as Vice President of the 6th District of the International Association of Firefighters. Over the years, Bill found various ways to contribute to the people of Burnaby. In conjunction with his work with the Fire Department, Bill was also President of the Burnaby Red Cross, Director of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Chairman of the St. John Ambulance, Life Member of the Burnaby North Lions Club and Member of the Deer Lake Chapter of the Rotary Club – to name but a very few of the numerous groups and organizations to which he belonged. Immediately upon his retirement from the Fire Department in 1987, Bill was asked to run for the position of Mayor of Burnaby and was successful in his bid. As Mayor, Bill earned the respect of Council and the citizens of Burnaby for his outstanding work and dedication to the community. Bill was an advocate of public participation and introduced the concept of “Area Advisory Committees” to the City with the appointment of the Hastings Street Advisory Committee. The success of this process has led to many other appointments for area advisory committees throughout Burnaby. Bill did not limit his good works to stay within the borders of the City, and as Mayor he was responsible for the two-year sister city twinning agreement with the city of El Zapotal, El Salvador. This campaign saw the citizens of Burnaby embark on numerous initiatives and fundraisers to offer support and assistance to this developing area. In 1996, Bill retired from public life after serving three terms in office and in 1997, in recognition of Bill’s contribution to the community both as a firefighter and as Mayor, the newly constructed ice arena at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex was officially named the “Bill Copeland Sports Centre,” and in 2001, Bill was made a Freeman of the City. William Copeland died August 30, 2002.

- The Heritage Village Museum was originally created as a British Columbia Centennial Project in 1971 through funding from the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments. A sub-committee of the Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee was responsible for the creation of a permanent commemorative project. The concept for an open-air museum was developed with the location to be in Burnaby on lots 8,9, 10 and 11 of District Lot 79 and Lots 2 and 5, Block "R" of Districts Lots 79 and 85. The official sod turning for Heritage Village took place on April 11, 1971. In the spring of 1971, a museum director and curator were hired to oversee the development of the project and the acquisition of artifacts with funding from the Parks and Recreation Commission. The Century Park Museum Association (CPMA) was founded under the auspices of the Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee to govern Burnaby's Centennial '71 Commemorative Project, Heritage Village. The CPMA Board of directors were elected on October 26, 1971 with Donald (Don) Copan as the founding president (Don continued to serve on the Board until 1989). The Board of Directors reported directly to the Municipal Council. The association had an overall objective of providing a museum that was a historical resource for Burnaby and the region. The museum mandate was to collect, preserve, research, document and interpret artifacts and historical buildings that illustrated the history and lifestyle of the Lower Mainland in B.C. and Burnaby. The Museum focused on the period between 1890 and 1925 depicting a village lifestyle of a small community. This was achieved through the use of exhibits and displays within historic buildings and built reconstructions along with costumed museum interpreters. Many people contributed to the construction and design of the village. Architect, Rudy Kovach created the initial concept drawings and architecture designs were created by architectural design consultants Hopping, Kovach and Grinnell. Many carpenters and tradespeople worked on the construction of the buildings including Mr. Angelo Giacometti who was respsonible for much of the final decorative elements. The official opening of Heritage Village took place on November 19, 1971 with Burnaby Mayor Bob Prittie and Canada’s Governor General Roland Michener. Heritage Village was opened up to the public for a few days between November 19 and 21 with approximately 15,000 visitors. On July 1st, 1972 Heritage Village re-opened for the summer season with CPMA president, Don Copan and Mayor Bob Prittie officiating. This opening showcased further development of the site with more buildings and exhibits added. In 1984, Heritage Village Museum changed its name to “Burnaby Village Museum” and in turn, the Century Park Museum Association changed its name to the “Burnaby Village Museum Association”. Burnaby Village Museum continued to be governed by the Burnaby Village Museum Association until the end of 1989. In 1990, the Corporation of the District of Burnaby assumed the operation and management of Burnaby Village Museum under the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department and the Burnaby Village Museum Association was dissolved.

- The Official Opening of Heritage Village - Invitation -- [1971]. Invitation to the Official Opening Luncheon of the Heritage Village by His Excellency The Right Honourable Roland Michener, Governor-General of Canada along with the Mayor and Municipal Council of Burnaby. The invitation was addressed to "Mrs. M. Trainer & guest" for a civic luncheon at The Astor Motor Hotel on November 19th, 1971. At the top of the invitation is an illustration of a blue rhododendron flower and the British Columbia Centennial '71 logo. The invitation measures 18.5cm x 14.5cm.

- The invitation was issued to special guests to attend the official opening of Heritage Village (now the Burnaby Village Museum) in 1971, as well as a luncheon with the Governor General and his wife as special guests. This particular invitation was issued to Mary Trainer, who was the Centennial Co-ordinator charged with supporting the work of Burnaby's 1971 Centennial Committee, chaired by James Barrington. The Centennial Committee organized a variety of projects and events in 1971 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of British Columbia's entry into Confederation. The construction of the Heritage Village was their major project.

- A steel seal stamp machine with a blue painted body and silver lever. The seal is circular in shape. Four rubber feet are present. A name plate holding a card printed with "JOHN YANKO TILE CO. LTD." is attached at the front of the stamp. The cardboard box is white with "SEALS & EMBOSSERS OFFICIAL" printed continuously over it. The name "JOHN" is printed in handwritten ink. Markings on the lever: "OFFICIAL LONG REACH PAT.2,706 448" A sticker on the underside reads: "Westamp TELEPHONE 521-4448 or 521-1722 35 - 8th Ave, New Westminster, B.C. V3L 1X6" The stamp imprints along the perimeter of the circle: "JOHN YANKO TILE CO. LTD." with a 5 pointed star. In the middle "SEAL".

- Hand tools used by John Yanko in his business as a tile setter. Annie D. Basiuk (later Yanko) was born on February 25, 1902 in Sheho, Saskatchewan (formerly Sheho, North West Territories). Daniel "Dan" Yanko was born in Kobilnicha, Ukraine in 1887 and immigrated to Canada in May or June of 1905. Daniel Yanko married Annie D. Basiuk and had thirteen children together. Their son, John Ivan Yanko was born on the family farm, near Kelliher, Saskatchewan, on June 27, 1923. In grade six, John was pulled out of school to help support the family. Eugenia “Jenny” Haresomovych (later Carman) was born August 8, 1904 in Galecia, Austria. She came to Canada in 1928, when her parents sent her to live with the Austrian consular in Halifax. A year later, she was in The Pas with Albert Edward Carman, with whom she would have three children. Their daughter, Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman was born in The Pas, Manitoba March 24, 1929. Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) Carman later re-married Joseph Nagy who was born in Hungary in October 3, 1900. Jenny, Joseph and the children moved to Nelson, British Columbia, where Joseph worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the age of twenty, John Yanko met his future wife Lillian Doris Carman while visiting relatives in Burnaby. Lillian received a rail pass because of her dad’s employment with the CPR and at fourteen had gone to visit her Godmother in Burnaby. John Ivan Yanko and Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman were married October 16, 1948 in Nelson, British Columbia and moved into the basement of John’s sister’s house on Union Street. Lillian began working at the downtown Woodward’s store as a cashier in 1948. In 1950, the young couple bought property at 7385 (later renumbered 7391) Broadway in Burnaby and began constructing a house as they could afford it. Knowing she’d be let go if she was pregnant, when Lillian was expecting her first child, Jenny sewed her several versions of the same outfit; they all used the same material, but each was a little bit larger than the last to accommodate her expanding girth. Rhonda, born in 1953 and Charmaine, born in 1955, grew up in the Broadway home. They attended school at Sperling Elementary, and later at Burnaby North high school. Lillian left her job to be a stay-at-home mom when Rhonda was born, but that changed in 1963 when John and Charmaine were in a car accident that left John temporarily unable to work. Joseph Nagy died April 20, 1962; his wife Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) (Carman) Nagy passed away August 14, 1985. Daniel "Dan" Yanko died in 1976; his wife Annie D. (Basiuk) Yanko died in 1997. John Yanko later returned to work, establishing his own tile setting business and working until age eighty-two. John and Lillian lived out the rest of their married lives on the Broadway property. John Ivan Yanko passed away in 2010; his wife Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman (Carman) Yanko passed away in 2011.
