- The phasing out and demolition of the Oakalla Prison farm allowed for the planned development of the Oakalla Neighbourhood in the 1980s. By 1991, the City of Burnaby had adopted the Oakalla Development Plan which called for the transfer of land to the Deer Lake Park reserve as well as the creation of a new residential area consisting of multi-family housing types.

- Burnaby Municipal Police shoulder bar for jacket. Cast in one piece in metal. Letters are connected by integral bars. Secured by mounting posts and cotter pin.

- Jacket shoulder bars issued to Constable George Jeffery. George Jeffery served as a Constable on the Burnaby Police Force from 1912 - 1935. His patrolled the large Central Park District by foot, stretching from Boundary to Royal Oak and Marine Drive to Moscrop. Over the coarse of his duties, Constable Jeffery saw the need for recreational activities in the area. He founded the Burnaby Athletic Association which featured a competitive boxing ring and gym. In 1935, when the Burnaby Police became the British Columbia Provincial Police, rather than leave the community he chose to leave the force. George Jeffery than worked at the nearby Oakalla Prison Farm until retiring in 1945.

- A cast iron gauge of the same design as the Atkins excelsior saw tool Co. It is approximately rectangular in shape with three horizontal bands and four vertical supporting pillars. On the top a set screw is present. A notch is present in the base plate held in place with two short slotted screws and with a smaller adjustment screw above. Markings cast into the saw gauge appear to be: On one side: "MORIN" "PAT/69" "JUNE" "S.J." "SEATTLE" On the other side: "SEATTLE" "1900"

- Journal; hand bound journal tied together with three ribbons along the left edge. Green coloured cardstock cover of journal includes hand drawn art nouveau style border illustration and title in black and gold; title in centre reads: "Observations / from / NATURE". Original water-soluable ink drawings of flora and fauna throughout. Nine black and white photographs of Deer Lake and "Class VI Boys" and "Farmerettes of Class VI" working in school garden are glued onto the last seven pages. Preface on page 3 of journal indicates that the content includes personal observations of the woods around Deer Lake made by the author, S. Herbert Price and is dated May 8, 1923. Content on pages within journal document the creator's observations with texts and illustrations between January 1923 and May 1923.
- Object History
- Sydney Herbert Price was born on December 18 1903 in England to Frank Price (1872-1952) and Ruth Parlour (1875-1941). He was a school teacher for the Burnaby School Board and lived at 6050 Clinton Street, Burnaby. He died in 1969. The family lived at 3113 Royal Oak in Burnaby (later renumbered to 6290). In 1906, his uncle (Herbert Price) purchased the land on which Oakalla Prison Farm was to be built on. The Price family farm grew strawberries and then raspberry canes. The business grew so big that the family hired up to 100 berry pickers to help out.

- A brass and steel controller used for opening and closing cell doors at Oakalla Prison. The top is composed of a brass plate and is round in shape. A brass handle is present in the center of the plate and rotates to aim a pointer at any of numbers 1 to 9 and the letter A at the beginning of the numbers. The handle is spring loaded and can rotate whenever it is pushed down releasing it from a pin. Under this brass plate are two steel gears held within a steel frame all of which are held together with locking nuts. Markings on the top of the brass plate: "A" and the numbers in consecutive order from "1" to "9" . The numbers 7, 8 and 9 have been stamped in and appear to have been added later whereas the numbers "1" to "6" are present in raised format. The number "7" appears twice likely since the handle only locks at that point in between the two "7s" Markings on the small gear: "KANA" "NK 40B 15".
