Colin is writing from hospital after being wounded while laying communication cable from the Normandy beachhead on June 8, 1944 (two days after D-Day). In the letter, Colin tells his mother of his current condition in hospital, describing the wounds that he sustained and how much of his belongings are still with his regiment.
