Stafford Ague Denby (1882-1957) started peddling shoe findings in 1918 around Vancouver to repair shops around town from the back of an old Ford. Two of his brothers, William Albert (1873-1947) and Melvin Stanley (1879-1953) joined him in 1919 to form Denby Bros & Co. Ltd Leather and Shoe Findings at 163 West Pender. William Gordon Pope started helping out in the shoe store at the age of 10. He eventually ran the store with his cousin, Pat Denby (son of William A. Denby) starting in the 1950s. The store closed in 1974.

- Box style buggy with shafts for a single horse. There is no top. The seat is built up from the sides of the box. There is a hinged lid at the rear behind the seat. It is covered with a heavy canvas. The covered space goes through and underthe seat. The box is equiped with a step and a wheel rub plate on each side. There is a foot rest inside the box. The box is suspended from the two eliptical springs, one over each axle. The wheels are black and the running gear and shafts are red. The seat is upholstered in leather in a diamond tufted pattern. The dash is old leather over a metal frame and has nickle plated trim which has been bent on the top left side. There are very faint pin-stipes and flower painted decoration on the black finish of the body.

In 1912, he built the Deerholme house designed by his architect son, Fred Laughton Townley.

- Trunk or travelling hatbox for up to six hats. The fiber board trunk is reinforced with leather binding at the seams. It has a carrying handle at the top and two straps and buckles at the front with a hasp at the centre. The lid is hinged at the back. The trunk is black with brown leather binding. The inside is lined with gray and white stripped fabric. The left corner of the lid is torn and the bottom of the trunk has suffered water damage. There are metal clips in each of the sides, bottom and inside of the lid to hold a frame for holding a hat. Up six hats could be accommodated with the hat crowns to the centre of the trunk. "A.S.H." is painted on the top of the trunk and there are travel stickers for "TRANS CANADA / AIR LINES", "ALLAN LINE", steamships and "SOUTHERN RAILWAY", in England. There are the remnants of other stickers on the trunk. Mrs. Hill travelled back and forth to England on several occasions, the last time in 1948 when she flew in her early 90's.

- All items are from the L. Claude Hill family and are associated with Anne Sarah Hill (nee Kenrick) and Kitty Hill. Mrs. Hill travelled back and forth to England on several occasions, possibly in 1905 and again possibly in the 1920's. She travelled in 1931 and the last time in 1948 when she flew Trans Canada Airlines (TCA) in her early 90's

- Ladies ice skates, a pair, with laces. a) Left skate is made of black leather which has been painted white. 8 eyelets for laces. Black wooden shoe base. Inside of tongue and insole are lambskin. - Object History
- Owned by Lillian Yanko before she was married and used by daughters to skate on Deer Lake and Still Creek in winter. Annie D. Basiuk (later Yanko) was born on February 25, 1902 in Sheho, Saskatchewan (formerly Sheho, North West Territories). Daniel "Dan" Yanko was born in Kobilnicha, Ukraine in 1887 and immigrated to Canada in May or June of 1905. Daniel Yanko married Annie D. Basiuk and had thirteen children together. Their son, John Ivan Yanko was born on the family farm, near Kelliher, Saskatchewan, on June 27, 1923. In grade six, John was pulled out of school to help support the family. Eugenia “Jenny” Haresomovych (later Carman) was born August 8, 1904 in Galecia, Austria. She came to Canada in 1928, when her parents sent her to live with the Austrian consular in Halifax. A year later, she was in The Pas with Albert Edward Carman, with whom she would have three children. Their daughter, Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman was born in The Pas, Manitoba March 24, 1929. Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) Carman later re-married Joseph Nagy who was born in Hungary in October 3, 1900. Jenny, Joseph and the children moved to Nelson, British Columbia, where Joseph worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway. At the age of twenty, John Yanko met his future wife Lillian Doris Carman while visiting relatives in Burnaby. Lillian received a rail pass because of her dad’s employment with the CPR and at fourteen had gone to visit her Godmother in Burnaby. John Ivan Yanko and Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman were married October 16, 1948 in Nelson, British Columbia and moved into the basement of John’s sister’s house on Union Street. Lillian began working at the downtown Woodward’s store as a cashier in 1948. In 1950, the young couple bought property at 7385 (later renumbered 7391) Broadway in Burnaby and began constructing a house as they could afford it. Knowing she’d be let go if she was pregnant, when Lillian was expecting her first child, Jenny sewed her several versions of the same outfit; they all used the same material, but each was a little bit larger than the last to accommodate her expanding girth. Rhonda, born in 1953 and Charmaine, born in 1955, grew up in the Broadway home. They attended school at Sperling Elementary, and later at Burnaby North high school. Lillian left her job to be a stay-at-home mom when Rhonda was born, but that changed in 1963 when John and Charmaine were in a car accident that left John temporarily unable to work. Joseph Nagy died April 20, 1962; his wife Eugenia “Jenny” (Haresomovych) (Carman) Nagy passed away August 14, 1985. Daniel "Dan" Yanko died in 1976; his wife Annie D. (Basiuk) Yanko died in 1997. John Yanko later returned to work, establishing his own tile setting business and working until age eighty-two. John and Lillian lived out the rest of their married lives on the Broadway property. John Ivan Yanko passed away in 2010; his wife Leida Doria "Lillian Doris" Carman (Carman) Yanko passed away in 2011.

- Black leather rollerskates with four red plastic wheels on the bottom and on the toe, a red plastic break/stopper on each skate. - Walnut chest, lap desk, portable writing cabinet and desk; sides are plain; sloping lid has brass cut-out designs at corners and centre, each with a marble set in the centre; centre design is large petal either side, smaller up and down, with four smallest between; stemmed flower inside larger petals, smallest have leaf; corner designs are one large petal and two half-petals, each with stemmed flower, small flower between petals; brass settings for inkwell, square, one either side of flat part of lid; between these is box with curved lid, plain sides and back, front has brass cut-out designs; at centre, with keyhole, is petal either side, stemmed flower inside; either side is flower in triangle, with marble; lid has similar brass and marble designs to desk lid, but smaller; writing surface of desk is purple fuzzy fabric with border and flourishes; leather-lined compartment under upper part of writing surface, extends under inkwell part with shelves; upper box has vertical compartments, two larger, three smaller, lined with white fabric; pen compartment either side of smaller ones with purple velvet lids and brass knobs; desk and upper box have locks; with key

- The donor's family were early settlers to Burnaby, and he worked for the BCER as an electrician. Donor was the original owner of the property that the Burnaby Village Museum now occupies. The writing slope was used widely in the 1800s. It was mainly used in the late 1700s during colonial expeditions, and military travel. It became very popular in Victorian times for lay people and used in many homes. It provided a portable desk, complete with a soft writing surface (felt or leather), compartments for ink, pens, and paper. It was considered to be a personal item, rather than a household one.
