- Object History
- Object was a fixture used in the Jubilee Dry Goods store at 6763 Jubilee Avenue. Jubilee Dry Goods was owned by the Ernest and Jean Pitman family. McGregor Socks is a Canadian hosiery brand founded in 1928. The cushioned sole line of "Happy Foot" socks was introduced in the late 1930's.

- Trophy with a turned wood base. The trophy is electro-plated britannia metal, style number 3406 (?), made by the W. M. A. Rogers Co., as marked on the underside of the trophy. The cup is engraved: ANNUAL CHALLENGE CUP PRESENTED TO THE SOUTH BURNABY HORTICULTURAL ASSOCIATION CHRYSANTHEMUM BRANCH BY THE JAPANESE & CANADIAN CHRYSANTHEMUM SOCIETY 1940 The wood base has a dark brown finish and has two shields mounted on it, engraved: J.A. SIGGERS 1940 and H. L. KAY 1941
- Object History
- The 1940 winner was John Arthur Siggers (1905-1968). He was married to Nancy Evelyn (Duckett) (Smith) Siggers (1912-2006) in Burnaby in 1938. The couple resided at 6890 Gray Avenue, Burnaby (formerly 2343 Gray Avenue). John's death certificate lists his occupation as "Gardner - Nursery Man". Nancy also worked in the gardening business and the couple were frequent entrants and winners in flower shows around the Lower Mainland. The 1941 winner was likely Herman Ludwig Kay (1890-1967). He was married to Dorothy Harriet Mary (Jackson) Kay (1890-1965). An H.L. Kay was appointed Burnaby's municipal assessor 1946 and Herman's death certificate lists his occupation as "Retired Assessor - Municipal Employee". The 1955 B.C. Directory gives the couple's address as 2067 Jubilee Avenue, Burnaby (later 7267 Jubilee Avenue). In addition to flowers, Herman also cultivated award winning raspberries, apples, scarlet runner beans, and other vegetables.

- Photograph of a house on Imperial Street between Jubilee Avenue and Nelson Avenue. Handwritten on the back of the photorgaph's mount reads the following: "House on Imperial Street, Burnaby, (between Jubliee Avenue and Nelson) built in 1911-1912 for Rev. Hector N. Maclean, (first Minister of Henderson Presbyterian Church). We, the Maclean family, moved into the new house in early spring of 1912, shortly after the death of the eldest boy Hector (Teddy) on March / 13, 1912. Dr. & Mrs. Maclean & family moved to Victoria in 1914. The family moved to Vancouver in 1923 and Dr. Maclean served on the staff of the Social Services & Evangelism of the Presbyterian (?) [sic] of Canada as Assembly Evangelist. Dr. and Mrs. Maclean & youngest daughter went to New Zeland twice over a period of six years where he had several pastorales. On returning to Canada he returned to West Point Grey. Dr. & Mrs. Maclean had 10 children, 5 boys and five girls. Dr. maclean died on Jan. 20, 1950. / (Victoria - St. Paul's Presbyterian church) This brief account started by the eldest daughter Florence (Mrs. R.F. Mackenzie) and finished by the youngest daughter Marion (Mrs. A.K. Lovick of New Westminister) in August 1991. There is one remaining brother Donald Noble Maclean of Vancouver".

She immigrated to Canada with some of her family members in the early 1920s. They lived in Winnipeg for a few years as an older brother had settled there in 1912. She married Herbert Russell Parsons on June 23, 1928. They first lived in Vancouver and finally bought a home at 7091 Jubilee Avenue, South Burnaby in the early 1930s. In 1943, Flossie was certified in Home Nursing. Herbert Parsons was active during the Second World War as a volunteer for Civil Defence in Burnaby and worked as a salesman for Woodwards. The couple had no children. Herbert passed away on May 23rd, 1957 (age 84) and Flossie passed away on April 6, 1996 (age 100).

She immigrated to Canada with some of her family members in the early 1920s. They lived in Winnipeg for a few years as an older brother had settled there in 1912. She married Herbert Russell Parsons on June 23, 1928. They first lived in Vancouver and finally bought a home at 7091 Jubilee Avenue, South Burnaby in the early 1930s. In 1943, Flossie was certified in Home Nursing. Herbert Parsons was active during the Second World War as a volunteer for Civil Defence in Burnaby and worked as a salesman for Woodwards. The couple had no children. Herbert passed away on May 23rd, 1957 (age 84) and Flossie passed away on April 6, 1996 (age 100).
