History: Archie Miller was born in 1946 in New Westminster, BC into a family of commercial fishers. He served as the curator of the New Westminster musuem Irving House until his retirement in 1999. He authored "Irving House, a family history" with museum assistant Valerie Francis in 1988. Since retiring, Archie conducts local historical research and writes about BC with his wife, Dale.

Heritage Value: The BCER Connaught Cut-off was named after the Duke of Connaught, who visited Burnaby in 1912. The original route of the interurban tramline was built along 12th Street into New Westminister, which proved to be too steep of a route, with many accidents occuring due to the grade. The Connaught Cut-Off was built in 1912 to re-route the interurban tram to the south of its original route from Highland Park Station, avoiding the steep hill on 12th Street. Streetcar service was introduced on the now abandonned track on 12th Street, connecting to the Highland Park Station. This streetcar route was known as the Highland Park Streetcar.

Scope and Content: Photograph of the Burnaby Historical Society float in the Pacific National Exhibition's parade on Hastings Street. The float is decorated as Interurban Tram no. 1223. Written on the tram roof is, XXX"Burnaby Historical Society," on the side is "The Last Tram," and on the back is "Burnaby / 1223." Behind the float are two men seated in an old car with a sign reading, "The Hydro Originals" on the side. The stores that can be seen are: Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank of Canada, Ward Music, Hans Grumme Hairstylists, Susie Wong Fashions, and Canadian Pacific Telegrams. A bus stop sign for Main, Hastings, unidentified, Oak, and Victoria buses can also be seen.
