double bit axe head

- This split, double bitted, utility axe head was found on Burnaby Mountain by Alfred Bingham in 1920. Mr Bingham bought property on the West side of the mountain in 1920. The axe head is double bladed. The head is very rusty and has been cracked across one side. The remains of the handle are still in the axe eye.
- Object History
- The axe head was found on the site of Simon Fraser University (SFU), an area logged in the early years of the 20th Century by Gilley Logging. The axe may have been broken by one of their loggers.

- Note from Alfred Bingham, original in accession file. "THIS AXE HEAD WAS FOUND IN 1920 / BY ALFRED BINGHAM ON THE PRESENT SITE / OF THE SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY. IT PROBABLY / WAS USED BY AN EARLY LOGGER. WHO CUT DOWN / SOME OF THE GREAT TREES THAT GREW ON / BURNABY MOUNTAIN. HUNDREDS OF YEARS AGO. MANY OF THESE TREES WERE OVER 800 YEARS OLD / Alfred Bingham " hand written in ink on one face of note. - Glass rectangular prism with 3D etching depicting heavy duty trucks. Each corner of the bottom of the sculpture has a small pad. The sculpture has a branded black box for safe carrying. The box is in two parts. The exterior of both parts is covered in a black vinyl wrap, and polyester satin in the inside. The inside of each box is inset to fit on half of the sculpture. The top half of the box has a "Burnco 100 Years" logo in red, gray, white and black.
- Object History
- The Burnco company was established in Calgary in 1912 as a rock and aggregate and concrete supply company. This presentation piece was presented to the City of Burnaby on the establishment of its new Burnaby based plant in the Big Bend area in 2004.

- Button pin, round, buff ground with wide brownish red border and green print. Around edge from left, "JULY / AUG / SEPT". Logo below 'AUG', illegible, "LI--HA" ?, then "1920". At bottom is brownish red dot at centre of "U.B.M.W.E.R.S.L." in circle. Pin is paper formed over a metal back and held in place by pressure. Clear coating over front. Back is dark metal with remains of pin clasp closure ?, coil of wire one side, lighter-coloured patch of metal around opening other side. Back is hollow. Manufacturer's stamp, mostly illegible, "--- CO" "--H.N.Y." and hallmark ?. Metal of back is tarnished, some scratches and wear on front.

- Union dues button for the United Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and Railroad Shop Laborers which was affiliated with the American Federation of Labour. - Shirt dress, c.1950s. Rayon 'corklin' turquoise. White buttons with decorative white thread, pockets, short sleeves, belt, calf length slightly flared skirt. The bodice has a pleat in each shoulder, one in each side back, and a dart at each side front. The collar has revers that extend from the centre front opening, creating a V neck. The short sleeves have a fold over cuff, and are set in. The dress opens completely down centre front with five small white plastic buttons in the bodice, and fifteen in the skirt. They each have decorative machined button holes in white fabric that extend a few centimetres more than needed. There are four gores in the skirt, two in the front and two in the back, each somewhat flared. In each side seam there is a pocket decorated with four of the same buttons as on centre front. The skirt extends to just below the knees. At the natural waistline of the dress, there is a snap closure in to hold it in place. Sitting on top, there is a thin adjustable belt with a loop at each side seam. On the right loop a white, yellow, and black paper tag hangs. It reads: "An 'Easy Living' Fabric. Corklin by Burlington. Rayon." On the back it says: "Burlington's CORKLIN is an all rayon quality fabric with the look and feel of fine linen. Here's what makes CORKLIN an easy living fabric: 1. Machine wash, 2. Drip dry, 3. If touch up required, use a dry iron on dry fabric. Burlington Mills, Burlington quality, 'Woven into the Life of America.' A member of Burlington Industries. Printed in U.S.A." On the inside back of the neck, there is a small cloth tag that reads: "Style / Size 16 1/2." The seams of the dress are finished with pinking shears, and the hems are hand finished. It has never been worn.

- Large plastic sign with internal backlighting for advertising. The sign has two sections for ad inserts and one section for price display.
- The price display is currently set up advertising the price of packs and cartons of cigarettes
- The first bank of prices are 3 digit with small windows that reveal the number on a roller behind. The second bank of prices are 4 digits.
- The sign was made by CDA Industries in Scarborough, Ontario and is stamped with "JULY 1986"
- There are three labels at the top of the sign including information about how to replace the lamps or reinsert unrolled numbers.
- There is a hole at the top of the sign for the electrical cord to come out.
- There are two white metal brackets attached to the ends of the sign and there is a rusted chain hanging from each bracket.
- The plastic at the bottom right corner on the back is broken and damaged.

- Item was used in the Canada Way Food Market owned by Harry Toy between 1975 and the late 2000s. the building sat vacant until sold in 2023.

- Silver plated, pewter beer stein with a glass bottom. The stein is a presentation trophy from the Royal Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition held at New Westminster. NEW - WESTR CELEBRATION 1893 CANOE RACE FOURS WON BY H.T. TOVEY E. H. JOHNSTON F. R. WILSON G. L. BROWN Engraved on the face opposite the handle. Amateur race with single blades, straight line for 1/3 of a mile. No makers marks
- Object History
- The original owner of the object was Hamilton Tennent Tovey, grandfather of the donor's husband. The trophy was presented at the 1893 annual exhibition of the Royal Agricultural and Industrial Society of British Columbia at New Westminster, Sept. 26th to 29th, 1893. The amateur canoe races were held Thursday Sept 28th.

- Pair of bumper jacks or car jacks. The jacks are a ratcheting style. The first jack is made of steal and used as a model for the second one which is made of wood and designed to be a prop for a movie set.
- Both jacks have an orange painted finish that has been weathered and distressed. One through time and use, the other intentionally designed to look old.
- The jacks have a base plate, lifting runner, ratcheting handle, and standard column with adjustment holes.
- The prop bumper jack has fewer moving parts and does not include any of the spring mechanisms.
- Object History
- Jimmy Chow worked in TV and film as a property master for more than 42 years. A property master is responsible for building and procuring props that actors handle and use. This sometimes means making replica items that are lighter, false or make filming easier on the actor. This differs from set decoration, which uses props to create a backdrop and is less central to the action on set.
- Jimmy Chow was responsible for designing, managing, and sourcing props for films such as: BFG, Warcraft: The Beginning, X-Men 2, Fantastic Four, Watchman, Tron: Legacy, Little Women, Seven Years in Tibet, Shanghai Noon, The Shipping News, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, The Changeling, Man of Steel (Superman), Snow Falling on Cedars, Legends of the Fall, And the Sea Will Tell, and Once a Thief.
- He entered the film industry in 1973 working for CBC Vancouver and gained valuable experience working on the set of the television series The Beachcombers, which launched his career.

- Give-away baseball cap from the Bridge Film Studio in Burnaby. The cap is black with red trim, "knp" makers logo. Made in China, 100% polyester.
- Object History
- Obtained from the Bridge Studio Burnaby circa 2006. The Bridge Studios was built in 1987 on 15 acres of land that was formerly part of the Dominion Bridge bridge-building plant. From 1930 until the mid 1970s, Dominion Bridge constructed steel structures ranging from portions of the Golden Gate and Lions Gate Bridges to holding tanks for pulp mills. Several of the Dominion Bridge buildings were re-used by the studio, including the Cafeteria Building, the Boiler House, and the Compressor Building. In the mid-1970s filming began on a temporary basis in unused portions of the plant. In 1987, after lobby efforts by local film industry unions, guilds, and suppliers, the Government of British Columbia agreed to invest in renovating the site to create a permanent studio facility in order to ensure that BC had a stable base of operations for film production. The Bridge Studios, the first dedicated studio facility in Vancouver, opened for business in 1987 with television series "MacGyver" and the feature film "Stakeout" among the first productions to have used the facility.
