The two people in the middle are holding plastering spatulas, and the two men on the outside are holding a hoe and a mattock. Annotations on the back of the photograph read: "Plasterers at house Bruce Patterson built at Edmonds. No date." and "c. 1930s" An annotation and earlier catalogue record notes that the caption on the back of the original photo read: "Bruce the first house he ever built." "Bruce" has been identified as Charles Bruce Patterson (standing to the left of the frame) by his grandson, Raymond Reitsma.
