He was a member of the Parks Board from 1956 to 1961 and served on the Burnaby Council as a Burnaby Citizens’ Association candidate from 1964 to 1970. Later, from 1974 to 1981, he was a member of the Burnaby Hospital Board, eventually serving as its Chairman. In 1984, he was awarded the status of Freeman, the highest award to be bestowed by the Municipal government.
